Rashid Khan is a handful. He turns the ball both ways, lots of variations and this will be a big challenge.

  2. Ned 84-2published at 16 overs

Rashid Khan enters the attack for the first time and delivers a typically parsimonious over, three from it.

The players are taking drinks - I'm going to snaffle down more of a cooked breakfast that's long gone cold. Congealed beans from a paper carton - delightful.

The run out has slowed the Netherlands' scoring slightly but it is a steady partnership and their form players in Scott Edwards and Bas de Leede are still to come even if they do lose another wicket or two.

It doesn't look like we're in for another one-sided game, which is a very good thing and good for the crowd.

  4. Ned 81-2published at 15 overs

Engelbrecht and Ackermann work Azmat for three singles, but no signs of a boundary.

We haven't had one since the dismissal of O'Dowd 21 deliveries ago, having enjoyed 13 fours prior to that.

The Netherlands haven't hit any massive totals but they have put on competitive scores and defended well.

They have scored 200 in five of their six innings, with their 90 all out against Australia the only exception.

In their previous World Cups, they only managed 200 six times out of 20.

Before this tournament started, we definitely wouldn't have thought that this game would have been one of the most intriguing.

But both teams have played so well, they have earned themselves a lot of respect with how they have played and showed they will not be a pushover.

They have both beaten top opposition and they deserve a lot of credit.

  7. Ned 78-2published at 14 overs

More signs of a shift in momentum as Engelbrecht fails to score from Nabi's first five deliveries before finally taking a single down to long on.

We talk so much about batting and bowling and I think we often underestimate how much of a difference that fielding can make, especially in the shorter format.

The game has shifted after the run out and looks a lot more balanced.

  9. Ned 77-2published at 13 overs

Ackermann and Engelbrecht take a single apiece to close out the Azmat over.

It is not even hitting fifth stump and it is miles outside the line.

Listen to your keeper when it comes to reviews - never your bowler. They want to review everything!

  11. Umpire reviewpublished at 12.2 overs

Well, this is a dumb review.

Azmat thinks he has Engelbrecht lbw - I'm not sure why, the batter was falling away outside off stump trying to paddle and the ball appeared to pitch on the off side. Keeper Ikram Alikhil isn't keen at all, but Afghanistan have gone for it.

Replays... yeah, outside off both pitching and striking.

Moments of brilliance like that in the field can completely change a game. It can give Afghanistan the boost that they really needed.

Max O'Dowd will be so disappointed, he was set for a big score.

  13. Ned 74-2published at 12 overs

Sybrand Engelbrecht is the next man in and he takes a quick single from his first delivery.

    O'Dowd run out Azmat 42 (Ned 73-2)

    Yes - that's gone!

O'Dowd dived from a long way out, knowing he was in trouble, and so it proved. He sweeps Mohammad Nabi and sets off - there's some hesitation before he decides to take the second run and Azmat strikes with a direct hit from the deep.

Some excellent fielding, but O'Dowd will be crushed after such a fine start.

Has Max O'Dowd got himself run out here?

    We're going upstairs.

Oh, that is a glorious shot. Straight back past the bowler, full face of the bat.

It's party time for the Netherlands out there.

  19. Ned 72-1published at 11 overs

A first switch for Afghanistan as Azmat comes on in place of Mujeeb.

The change in bowler doesn't bring a change in fortune, Ackermann drives his first ball back along the ground for four.

Rashid Khan is back on the field and has got the team in a huddle and is giving them some words. He is being very vocal and firm, seems to be saying they need to pull their socks up and switch on.

    They have been quite sloppy.
