This partnership is 21 off 28, they have had a start. The required rate is 8.96, they need a boundary an over somehow.

  2. Ned 89-3published at 22 overs

    Target 340

Strong finish from Adil Rashid and there's a big shout for lbw as Scott Edwards misses with a sweep shot.

Umpire Tucker shakes his head, though, and after a brief discussion, Rashid and Jos Buttler decide it's not worth a review.

Edwards has the full repertoire of sweeps, that one was just a straight bat.

  4. Ned 88-3published at 21.3 overs

    Target 340

Adil Rashid is into the attack and Scott Edwards waits until his third ball before trying to take him down.

It's a thumping shot, just over mid-on for four. He didn't get all of it but it was always safe. Four runs.

England at this stage were 135-2.

  6. Ned 82-3published at 21 overs

    Target 340

Slightly mistimed over extra cover by Sybrand Engelbrecht. It should be cut off comfortably, Gus Atkinson easily makes up the ground but then just misses the ball as he tries to flick it back.

The fielder falls over as he does so. All slightly comical stuff.

Chris Woakes might not see the funny side as his figures take a hit.

Darren: Does anyone aside from the third umpire think that Root catch didn't carry? Poor from Umpire Erasmus, especially when Engelbrecht seemed content enough to walk. Remember the good old days when the umpires took the fielders' word? Much simpler times.

  8. Ned 77-3published at 20 overs

    Target 340

Another mix-up for the Netherlands but this time, Scott Edwards and Sybrand Engelbrecht resolve it before any harm is done.

They were momentarily face to face in the middle of the pitch, though.

Just four from Moeen Ali's latest. The Netherlands are trundling along and the required rate keeps climbing.

Watching from a bar in Malta. That was clearly out, even from here.

    Target 340

Chris Woakes, after an impressive burst with the new ball, is back for another spell.

Unsurprisingly, there is not quite the same lateral movement that he got early on but there is still just enough for him to beat Scott Edwards outside off to end a tidy over.

Given Netherlands' struggles at the top order, they know they need to hold on to wickets.

They haven't done that, they were 13-2 at one point. England have got their foot on the throat and I don't think they are going to take it off.

  12. Ned 70-3published at 18 overs

    Target 340

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards is in at five and will have to go some to get his side anywhere close from here.

The required rate is edging up towards 8.5 an over now.

At least the Netherlands aren't going to have a repeat of their run out woes against Afghanistan, where they lost four of their top five. This one was just a mix-up.

Not a difficult one for Marais and in fact, Barresi has walked off the field. He knows it's gone. That 340 looks quite a long way away at the moment.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.3 overs

Barresi run out (Woakes) 36 (Ned 68-3)

No arguments about this one. Wesley Barresi is run out by a distance.

Barresi nudged the ball into the leg side and wanted two. Sybrand Engelbrecht said 'no' and Chris Woakes' throw was right on target.

No mistake from Moeen Ali as he gathered it and broke the stumps with Barresi a yard short.

That’s out all day long, batsman has walked. Embarrassing!

Plenty of catching up to do for the Netherlands if they're going to chase this down...

Thanks, Stephan. No rows here yet today, although the Christmas food chat did get a bit lively...

Anyway, quite a remarkable decision not to give that catch and Joe Root is still absolutely fuming.

Usually so mild-mannered, he is livid. He still had the presence of mind to turn away from the umpires before letting out an expletive following that six from Sybrand Engelbrecht, though.

There will be a right old row if Engelbrecht does a Glenn Maxwell from here.

Speaking of having a row, here's Sam Drury...

Not out. Marais, come on? Engelbrecht had given it out, that's very strange.
