  1. Pak 75-3published at 18 overs

The Rolling Stones front man has just watched a very tight over from Gus Atkinson with just one run conceded from it.

Plenty of intent from Atkinson, who always looks deep in thought in between deliveries. He walks back to his mark staring at the floor, the cogs whirring in his brain.

Harry Brook, meanwhile, is larking around in the ring.

    Thanks, Sam.

The players have taken a drinks break.

England look well on course to rubberstamp their place at the 2025 Champions Trophy with a victory at Eden Gardens.

  4. Pak 74-3published at 17 overs

Two sweeps from Saud Shakeel to start the over, one better executed than the other but both birng four.

After top-edging the first over short fine leg, Shakeel delicately laps the second very fine.

A good over for Pakistan but they've got it all to do as I hand over to Timothy Abraham for the next phase of the innings.

It will be very difficult for Pakistan to win the game from here. Rizwan can score the runs, but can he score at the pace required?

  6. Pak 64-3published at 16 overs

    Target 338

With the greatest of respect to David Willey, Gav, he's not Jimmy Anderson.

England have clearly decided to move on, it's a little harsh - certainly the timing of it - and he's had a decent World Cup but they have to refresh this group at some point.

Anyway, Gus Atkinson gets through another good over with just two from it.

Re: the response to Shane, what's age got to do with it? If a player is good enough, he's good enough. 34? He's got at least three more years in him, look at Sir Jimmy of Anderson at Test level.

  8. Pak 62-3published at 15 overs

    Target 338

Plenty of turn for Moeen Ali and that is making life difficult for the left-handed Saud Shakeel, who has just come to the crease.

Very good start from the England off-spinner.

Good over from Gus Atkinson. From his pace, we'll go to spin with Moeen Ali coming into the attack.

That's not the first time he has got out to mid-wicket. He had to hit it either on the ground or over the fielder's head. It was a good catch by Rashid.

It looked like he had got on top of it, but has pulled it straight to Rashid.

Pulled straight to mid-wicket! Big wicket for Gus Atkinson and England!

Banged in short by Atkinson, Babar Azam picked up on the length quickly and made decent contact with the shot.

But he hit it straight to Adil Rashid. A promising partnership for Pakistan comes to an end.

  13. Pak 57-2published at 13 overs

    Target 338

Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan are happy to deal in singles for the time being, taking five of them from Adil Rashid's over.

It's not dissimilar to how Joe Root and Ben Stokes went about things at the start of their partnership.

The question is whether Pakistan have the same hitting power down the order that England do?

Naseem Shah would have made a big difference for Pakistan. He's a good bowler on good batting surfaces.

  15. Pak 52-2published at 12 overs

    Target 338

He has certainly played his part in England's white-ball success over the past few years, Shane.

But people have called for a refresh of this group, he'll be 34 before the start of the T20 World Cup next year and is likely just the first of a number of changes that will come in the next year or so.

One of the next generation is likely to be Gus Atkinson. He gets through his first over of the day well, keeping Pakistan to just two singles.

Shane O'Neill: It mystifies me that they never offered David Willey a central contract. He is consistently England's best white-ball bowler, and he's handy with the bat. A big loss now he is retiring.

  18. Pak 50-2published at 11 overs

There's some turn for Adil Rashid but that doesn't stop Muhammad Rizwan going to the sweep shot he loves so much.

He times it well, sending the ball in front of square for four.

We're going to see some spin with Adil Rashid on to replace David Willey.

  20. Pak 43-2published at 10 overs

    Target 338

Super shot from Babar Azam, eased through mid-wicket. He just looks so controlled when he plays that shot and the timing is invariably impeccable.

Powerplay done and, while Pakistan have recovered a little, England will be the happier of the sides.
