England have clearly decided to move on, it's a little harsh - certainly the timing of it - and he's had a decent World Cup but they have to refresh this group at some point.

Anyway, Gus Atkinson gets through another good over with just two from it.

Plenty of turn for Moeen Ali and that is making life difficult for the left-handed Saud Shakeel, who has just come to the crease.

Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan are happy to deal in singles for the time being, taking five of them from Adil Rashid's over.

It's not dissimilar to how Joe Root and Ben Stokes went about things at the start of their partnership.

The question is whether Pakistan have the same hitting power down the order that England do?

Naseem Shah would have made a big difference for Pakistan. He's a good bowler on good batting surfaces.

He has certainly played his part in England's white-ball success over the past few years, Shane.

But people have called for a refresh of this group, he'll be 34 before the start of the T20 World Cup next year and is likely just the first of a number of changes that will come in the next year or so.

One of the next generation is likely to be Gus Atkinson. He gets through his first over of the day well, keeping Pakistan to just two singles.

Shane O'Neill: It mystifies me that they never offered David Willey a central contract. He is consistently England's best white-ball bowler, and he's handy with the bat. A big loss now he is retiring.
