Shubman Gill takes on Rohit's mantle!
He launches Jansen over mid-on for six!
Here he is, the birthday boy! Virat Kohli enters the stage on his 35th birthday.
Can he get a score to celebrate? He leaves his first delivery.

He was trying to get Kagiso Rabada off that length but couldn't get the elevation he needed. Rohit Sharma timed that but could not get the height on it. Nevertheless he has got the South Africa bowlers on the back foot with an impactful innings. He has given India some momentum.

A brilliant catch! That was really travelling to Temba Bavuma and he held on really well.
Rohit c Bavuma b Bavuma 40 (Ind 62-1)
A change of bowling has the breakthrough! It's the vital wicket of Rohit.
Kagiso Rabada comes into the attack and in fairness, Rohit absolutely blazes him too. But he doesn't quite get the elevation and it flies at a pace to Temba Bavuma at mid-off.
The South African captain gets behind the ball but still hits the deck, such is the power of the shot. He collapses back, taking the catch in front of his face.
Rohit departs with 40 from 24 balls.

That's the challenge with having a deep backward point - you are forcing the bowler to drop it in a little shorter. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are really putting the South Africa batters under real pressure.
Two balls later and Rohit is at it again!
Another six in the same square leg area, landing in the first few rows of some delirious fans.
Ngidi finishes with an impressive slower ball, but South Africa will need a fair few more of those to row this back.
Fifty up with a six!
Rohit clips Ngidi away through mid-wicket, evading the chasing Shamsi to make the ropes.
The following delivery he heaves the ball flat over square leg. They've passed the half century in just 27 balls.

Some excellent timing from Rohit Sharma now. He's really starting to find his stride.
A tough chance for South Africa! But India are in flying mood, they need to take whatever opportunity they can get.
Rohit heaves Jansen for four over square leg, before just finding a gap through mid-wicket for another boundary.
Rohit then skews a cut that balloons towards deep third. Tabraiz Shamsi runs in from the boundary but the ball lands millimetres short of his finger tips.
Close, but not close enough.
Legendary ex-India batter Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most runs in a World Cup tournament with the 673 he made at the 2003 tournament. Can South Africa's Quinton de Kock (545) or India's Virat Kohli (443) overhaul that this year?
Successive fours from Rohit Sharma now!
He cuts Ngidi away to the boundary and then dispatches a half volley through the covers.
Gill then returns to time a four through a big gap at mid-wicket. A fantastic start for India.

Marco Jansen is a young man from a small town just outside Johannesburg. This would be the biggest stage he's ever played on with a lot of pressure and expectation. He was extremely nervous before this game. That was a quite expensive over to start with.
Eeesh, expensive opening over from Marco Jansen.
It's not a bad start, his opening delivery takes the edge of Rohit Sharma, but runs away for a single past the slips.
An unremarkable leg side wide is followed by an absolutely wild one, bisecting wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock and the leg slip to race away for five runs. He then readjusts too much and fires an off side wide towards the slips, nearly taking out the shins of Aiden Markram.
Shubman Gill goes on to take advantage of finally facing a legitimate delivery, flicking the ball away for four through the covers and adds another boundary through mid-wicket.
A third leg side wide punctuates the two boundaries. 17 runs from the over.
A first four of the match from Rohit Sharma, lifting Ngidi over the cover ring. He's standing one-footed, crane-like, at the point of contact and holds the pose as the ball hurries away.
A thick edge runs down to deep third and Rohit takes the single to retain the strike.

I think South Africa will not take too many risks at the start. They won't go too hard - that's something that crept into the game from T20 cricket. In the 50-over game you have time to really build an innings.
Lungi Ngidi is opening the bowling for South Africa, two slips in.
India captain Rohit Sharma fends away his opening delivery.
We've had the anthems and the teams are out on the field.
Time to get going.
