Incredible athletic fielding from Will Jacks who dives across the pitch after his follow through to stop a firmly struck drive off the bat of Shai Hope.

Meanwhile, the Barmy Army trumpeter is going through his full range of Christmas songs to get everyone into the festive spirit.

Nice one Sam Curran, nice to see him in the wickets. Never doubt the young man's ability to take wickets.

An elegant pull into the leg side by Sherfane Rutherford off Bryson Carse. He holds the pose, but realises it's going to be stopped the sweeper on the boundary so has to set off for a dingle.

Shai Hope picks up a boundary with a drive down the ground which, really, should have been stopped by Liam Livingstone who dived over the ball.

Carse gives him a knowing glare.

  4. WI 49-4published at 12 overs

Interesting Jos Buttler has turned to Will Jacks ahead of Liam Livingstone and Rehan Ahmed. Seems strange with England on top not to turn the screw, rather than their third-choice spinner.

West Indies pick up four runs, dabbed and poked by Sherfane Rutherford and Shai Hope, off the over.

I went to watch a mate, the team travelled in five cars, one broke down, so I was pressed into action as the 9th man, the 10th player was the Canadian wife of a player, who had never picked up a cricket bat. She hit the winning runs!

  6. WI 45-4published at 11 overs

Oohs and ahhs from the England fielders as Sherfane Rutherford almost chops Brydon Carse's final delivery on to his stumps.

Will Jacks' off-breaks are summoned by England skipper Jos Buttler.

  7. WI 45-4published at 10.4 overs

Brydon Carse, who has been cast as a middle-overs enforcer in the Liam Plunkett mould, replaces Sam Curran.

He starts with three dots before Sherfane Rutherford leans into one slightly full and crisply flicks it through mid-wicket for four. Lovely timing.

  8. How's stat?!published at 18:18 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

Jos Buttler should think about turning to his spinners early to keep Shai Hope quiet.

Throughout his glittering ODI career, Hope only strikes at 70.92 against off-spin and 71.14 against leg-spin.

His best strike-rate is against left-arm pace at 101.44 but given how well Sam Curran is bowling, it's not a surprise that Buttler is keeping him going.

  9. WI 41-4published at 10 overs

End of the powerplay. England much the happier.

Certainly, the visiting fans seem to be enjoying things in Antigua.

Cricketers from Luxembourg and Bulgaria. A couple of crackers there!

A rebuilding job for West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Gus Atkinson starts with four dots before drawing Sherfane Rutherford into a tentative poke which flies through the slip cordon for four. A let off for the hosts.

I played Sunday friendlies in SW London against a side including a self-taught Bulgarian. He actually jumped backwards during his short bowling run-up and it was so difficult to work out when he released the ball he took several wickets. Might have been that we were pretty awful as well...

A slower ball which dribbles through to Jos Buttler is left alone by Sherfane Rutherford, who does not follow through with the shot, from Sam Curran's fifth ball.

Curran is a little wayward with his final ball of the over, though, and is denied a maiden as he allows Rutherford to pick up a single through third.

My social team Diagonal Tigers were once so desperate for a win that we concocted a friendly against a side cobbled together from Leeds University's maths department. We hammered them, but one of their players claimed to be a Luxembourg international, of all things.

Sam Curran has his tail up with 3-18 and is given a fifth over by England skipper Jos Buttler

Sherfane Rutherford twice works him into the leg side but is unable to get off the mark.

    Three dots from Curran.

Steve L: Zak Crawley is really good in the slips. He was excellent all summer.

  16. WI 31-4published at 7.3 overs

A counter attack from Shai Hope as he picks up two boundaries in three balls off Gus Atkinson.

The second is the pick of them, as he punches Atkinson as straight as a die down the ground.

This is a quality response from Curran with the ball. Buttler looked far from convinced in calling for that review; but no better way to show support for your under-fire bowler.

    Great start from England

Good job Jos Buttler was talked into it! Sam Curran has three.

It's full from the England left-arm seamer and a slightly iffy shot from Shimron Hetmyer is punished by the ball-tracking technology which shows it would have been three reds.

England are enjoying themselves in the field.

  19. England reviewpublished at 6.5 overs

Shimron Hetmyer attempts to work it to leg, but is struck on the pad by Sam Curran.

Given not out on the field.

Jos Buttler needs some convincing, but has gone for the review.

And talking of confidence - that’s even more important for Sam Curran. There have been definite questions over his bowling to back up his batting at this level right now, but undoubtedly he is a quality player who needs to rediscover that form of 12 months ago.
