There's a little bit more vim and vigour about Sam Curran's approach to the crease after that first wicket, and now he has two to his name.

Brandon King, who looked to have the wood on Curran, was drawn into defending into what looked a fairly straight delivery from the England left-arm seamer.

There's maybe a hint of movement as it takes the edge and Zak Crawley is grinning like a Cheshire cat after gobbling up another catch in the slips.

  2. WI 22-2published at 6 overs

Gus Atkinson backs up Sam Curran's wicket with a tight over as he largely goes full and straight to Brandon King, which does not allow the West Indies opener to free his arms.

West Indies skipper Shai Hope the new batter.

Well, I was going to say I was a little bit excited to see Keacy Carty today. However, he's only lasted two balls...

Why was I excited? Well, he's the first international cricketer I've ever seen from Sint Maarten, a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Carty actually holds a Dutch passport and coincidentally made his debut for West Indies against the Netherlands.

Regular viewers might be aware I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to cricket in offbeat locations so it got me wondering. Have any of you faced cricketers from unusual places? Any funny tales to tell?

To kick us off. I once played in a Sunday friendly against a guy from Morocco who had roped in by the opposition. He called in French, and with a few big swings got himself to double figures before being flummoxed by a 13-year-old leggie.

Would love to hear your tales. You can message us on X, formerly Twitter, with the hashtag #bbccricket text us 81111 or send a message via WhatsApp on 03301231826.

Keacy Carty plays an expansive waft at a wide one from Sam Curran but it is a bit of a nothing shot and a thick edge is pouched by Zak Crawley at a wide second slip position.

It's a good grab, high above his head.

That will have done Curran's confidence the world of good after his wicketless figures from the first ODI.

  5. WI 19-1published at 4.3 overs

Brandon King has taken a bit of shine to Sam Curran and dispatches the first ball of his third over for four through the covers once again.

Curran is fortunate not to be struck for another boundary when King latches on to to some width from Curran's third ball and the diving Harry Brook at point saves a certain boundary.

Keacy Carty is the new batter.

Not only good keeping and good review, but what England need most here to gain some needed confidence is early wickets. Gus Atkinson is a long-term exciting prospect.

Yes, a thin edge. Excellent review from England skipper Jos Buttler.

A superb delivery from Gus Atkinson, who has got the ball to shape back into the West Indies left-handed opener and slice him in two.

There's just a bit of bat on it on it at waist height as the ball goes through. A fine take from Buttler, too.

There is a noise on UltraEdge but is it bat?

  9. England reviewpublished at 3.4 overs

Gus Atkinson has cut Alick Athanaze in two.

Jos Buttler thinks there might be some bat on it.

  10. WI 15-0published at 3.3 overs

Zak Crawley, stood at slip, chatters away to Jos Buttler after Gus Atkinson tempts Alick Athanaze into wafting at a wide one from Gus Atkinson

Sam Curran offers Alick Athanaze a tiny bit of width and the left-hander connects but Phil Salt makes a fine diving stop at point.

Curran's third ball draws a thick-ish edge which is scooped up on the boundary down at third before Brandon King unleashes a superb drive wide of mid-off for four.

That made a rather satisfying crunching sound off the bat.

Gus Atkinson, who has the kind of hair cut you would expect from someone in the film Full Metal Jacket, starts with three dots before Alick Athanaze jabs one into the off side for a single.

Brandon King nails the final delivery with a crunching drive, but straight to the fielder at mid-off.

  13. How's stat?!published at 17:35 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

According to data providers CricViz, the toss shouldn't have a massive impact on today's result - batting first gives a 48% chance of victory so it's pretty even.

It also suggests that 269 should be a winning score and 220 a losing score.

England's 325 on Sunday was the highest ODI total of all time on this ground.

  14. WI 5-0published at 1.1 overs

Gus Atkinson with an absolute peach which beats the outside edge of Alick Athanaze's bat.

The West Indies left-hander can only chuckle in admiration at that delivery.

  15. WI 5-0published at 1 over

The strains of Jerusalem from the Barmy Army trumpeter echo around the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Alick Athanaze is off the mark with a rather streaky clip through mid-wicket to bring Brandon King on strike.

He stylishly drivers his first ball from Sam Curran through the covers for four. Crisp.

  16. WI 0-0published at 0.2 overs

A hint of swing from Sam Curran's second ball which prompts a Alick Athanaze to awkwardly defend.

Sam Curran has the ball in hand and has just done a few jumps and loosening exercises.

The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is about 15 minutes drive from the Antigua's capital St John's so this is about as close as we can get on the data supplied to BBC Weather from a vast number of weather stations around the world.

It's currently touching 30c, sunny with a gentle breeze. Forecast looks set fair for the whole of this one.

It's the right thing Sam Curran should play again even if he's not in the best form. I think he'll play all three ODIs because England will learn a lot more about him. If you drop him there is'a difficult precedent set.

  20. Postpublished at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

West Indies skipper Shai Hope on TNT Sports: "We would have done the same thing and bowled first. I believe the pitch won't change and it will be a little bit better to bat a night. We can't be complacent after the first match and tick all the boxes we talked about meetings

"Batting, we have to assess quickly and the conditions may be different. The quicker we assess we know what's needed on this particular surface. We also need to start better with the ball and take our catches."
