Three dot balls to finish the over but West Indies are cruising at the moment.

The required rate is a comfortable 5.26 an over.

  2. WI 66-1published at 10.2 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

Width from Rehan Ahmed and Alick Athanaze rocks back and finds the boundary with a late cut.

Before today's match, Keacy Carty had played 18 ODIs for West Indies and scored 390 runs at 30. His top score is the 87 he made against Sri Lanka in July 2023.

He is the first player born on the island of St Maarten to play for the West Indies.

    The runs keep coming.

Keacy Carty is starting to look much more comfortable at the crease and pulls Matthew Potts away behind square for four.

England need a spark otherwise their hopes of a series win could very quickly fizzle out.

  5. WI 57-1published at 9 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

    Shot.

Fuller from Rehan Ahmed but Keacy Carty gets a good stride in and thumps the ball back over the bowler's head for four.

West Indies going very well in the chase so far.

  6. WI 51-1published at 8.2 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

A touch too short from Rehan Ahmed and Alick Athanaze goes after it.

The ball slides off the outside edge but well wide of slip and away for four.

Not long at all. Here comes Rehan Ahmed.

The Windies' spinners got plenty of turn, what can the England leggie do?

  8. WI 46-1published at 8 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

Very tidy over from Matthew Potts, just a couple of runs from it.

The lavish lateral movement we saw in the first couple of overs has gone now, though.

How long before England turn to spin?

Re the DLS adjustment, is it not also because West Indies still have 10 wickets to get less runs?

    David in London

Yes, David. The DLS method considers the wickets a team has in hand.

We've got another delay because this game is destined never to end/ one of the stumps was broken by a shy at the stumps.

A replacement stump has been found, though, so we're ready to resume.

  11. WI 45-1published at 7 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

Sam Curran beats the edge to end his fourth over but it does already feel like England need another wicket pretty sharpish.

Alick Athanaze looks to be in the mood and with such a modest target, it only takes one free-flowing player getting going for half an hour or so and the game could be as good as done.

  12. WI 40-1published at 6 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

Alick Athanaze glances fine for another boundary. He's really got himself moving in the last couple of overs.

It's still early days and there is still plenty there for the bowlers, but already the ball seems to be coming onto the bat far better than in the England innings.

  13. WI 35-1published at 5.3 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

    Super shot from Alick Athanaze.

Bak of a length from Matthew Potts and the left-hander goes back punches the ball through the covers for four. Great timing.

  14. Postpublished at 00:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2023

Change of bowling for England. Matthew Potts is into the attack.

This feels like the kind of pitch that he will enjoy bowling on.

  15. WI 30-1published at 5 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

Frustration for Sam Curran as Alick Athanaze attempts a pull shot, gets it all wrong but the ball loops up and over slip for four.

The left-arm seamer responds with a delivery that swings back to Athanaze and bounces plenty as well.

This is a good battle and Athanaze lands the last blow of this over, thumping the ball through square leg for four more.

  16. WI 21-1published at 4 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

Seven from the over with Alick Athanaze able to work the ball through mid-wicket for two as Gus Atkinson targets his stumps.

To state the obvious, with only 188 needed for West Indies, England are going to need to bowl them out if they are to win this series.

No surprise then that Jos Buttler has got a slip, sometimes two, in place.

Could someone explain for a layman how DLS knocks off only 19 runs for the loss of six overs for West Indies? What parameters does the formula take to make that ‘fair’?

    Guy

It's quite complex, Guy, but one of the reasons will be that England's innings was interrupted. They are given extra dispensation because some of their batters have, in theory, had to start their innings twice.

  18. WI 18-1published at 3.2 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

    Fantastic timing from Keacy Carty.

He just leans on a length delivery from Gus Atkinson and sends it racing through the covers for four.

The concern for England is that the ball seems to be sliding onto the ball far more than it did for much of their innings.

  19. WI 14-1published at 3 overs

    Target 188 (DLS)

Too wide from Sam Curran and Alick Athanaze flays the ball through point off the back foot. Lovely shot.

Curran comes back at him well, though, and swings the last ball past the left-hander's outside edge as he drives.

Since the 2019 Cricket World Cup England have won just two ODI series away from home. They were against Netherlands and Bangladesh.
