Too short and Yashasvi Jaiswal capitalises - it's pulled with disdain for four.
It'll be fascinating to see how Tom Hartley handles this after his first over conceded two sixes.
And he strays in line with his first ball to Rohit Sharma, who clips down to fine leg for three with Zak Crawley saving the boundary with a fine diving effort.
Mark Wood has Jaiswal swaying out of the way of two sharp bouncers - both of which are called wides.
Wood looks pretty peeved. Having to bowl two extra balls at his effort is not appreciated.
Jaiswal looked perplexed as soon as the appeals came. It missed everything, so England lose a review.
Now then.
Has Mark Wood got Yashasvi Jaiswal caught down the leg side? Zak Crawley at slip went up straight away, followed by keeper Ben Foakes.
Not much from the bowler, but Stokes backs his fielders.

Hartley has got to keep calm and cool. India are obviously going to try to unsettle him.
It is up to Stokes to put an arm around him and see how he's feeling. It is difficult to bowl with the new ball with the lacquer on it as it's hard to get your fingers around it.
Tom Hartley's first over in Test cricket is one to forget, but Ben Stokes applauds and cheers him on. The further Jaiswal hits, the more aggressive Stokes will be.
This could be fun.

Former England fast bowler
England will be hoping Hartley as a tall man can get bounce but that first ball has bounced into the middle of Jaiswal's bat.
And his fifth ball has the same result!
Pressure.
Wow.
Tom Hartley can only watch as his first ball in Test cricket sails into the stands from the swishing blade of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Their intent is pretty clear. The debutant will not be allowed to settle in easily.
Nope, it'll be debutant Tom Hartley.
Stokes gets him straight in the action.

No Root. Disappointing.
There is some movement out there for Mark Wood but Yashasvi Jaiswal negotiates the first over.
Now, who will take the second?
This was Ben Stokes' reaction after being bowled by the genius of Jasprit Bumrah.
He's not the first to feel that way.
Straying down the leg side and Jaiswal easily clips it away for four.
Not the start that Mark Wood would've liked.
Excitement over.
It will not be Joe Root to open the bowling, it'll be the sole seamer in England's attack - Mark Wood.
Rohit Sharma and the prodigious Yashasvi Jaiswal are in the middle for India.

Joe Root is getting loose. So are the other bowlers, but it's still on.

Under most circumstances, 250 on that pitch against such a strong attack would be considered competitive. It still might be, but now we will see how England’s inexperienced spinners will fare.
It was going to take something brilliant to get rid of Ben Stokes in the mood that he was in, and Jasprit Bumrah provided it.
Stokes was the only man to pass a half-century, with starts for both openers, Root and Bairstow plus a handy cameo of 23 from debutant Tom Hartley.
There were three wickets each for spinners Jadeja and Ashwin, plus two for Axar Patel. It's spinning, but how will England's inexperienced line-up fare in comparison?
