I said that 400 was par yesterday so I think England have done well.

Jimmy Anderson was outstanding. I didn't think the ball would move and nip as much as it did this morning so England will need to be wary of that with Jasprit Bumrah in India's attack.

It feels like England will be happy with that after losing the toss.

They've taken four wickets for 60 runs in 19 overs this morning to wrap up the innings too, which feels like pretty good going.

But, there are signs of bounce for the spinners, and James Anderson found plenty with the new ball this morning.

Ben Stokes' side will want a lead because batting last on this pitch could be tricky. Will they get it?

I think England will be pretty happy with that, having lost the toss. Without Jaiswal, India would be in trouble.

But the pitch is starting to bounce and the odd one keeping low. It's going to be fascinating to see how England go about it.

    Mukesh c Root b Bashir 0 (Ind 396)

    All over.

Spin and bounce for Shoaib Bashir and Joe Root takes a good sharp catch at first slip to remove Mukesh Kumar.

India are all out for 396.

It’s been a busy morning, and India will fall well short of their ambitions when they won the toss yesterday.

I’m so happy it seems the Ashes WAS just a bit of a weird blip for Jimmy. What a gorgeous spell this morning. What a bowler.

Mukesh is hit on the pad straight away, but the googly from Rehan Ahmed was doing a little bit too much.

Mukesh Kumar, who averages 8.74 in his first-class career, is the new batter.

Lovely bit of bowling from Rehan Ahmed, bowling with good pace and zipping it through to get genuine turn and bounce. But that will make England a little wary because something is starting to happen for the spinners pretty much every ball now.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 110.5 overs

    Bumrah c Root b Ahmed 6 (Ind 395-9)

It takes just five balls for Rehan Ahmed to strike.

The leggie started with a rank full toss which Jasprit Bumrah whipped away to the mid-wicket boundary but then he homes in.

He twice beats Bumrah's outside edge before finding it and Joe Root does the rest at first slip.

    Ahmed has 3-65 now.

It will be at Anderson's end.

Leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed replaces the quick.

  13. Ind 391-8published at 110 overs

Which end will we see him from though? Both Shoaib Bashir and James Anderson have bowled unchanged this morning.

Bashir's latest set goes for two, with Kuldeep Yadav whipping away a full toss from the Somerset man.

    Rehan is getting loose.

  15. Ind 389-8published at 109 overs

James Anderson has been superb this morning. On another day he could have wrapped this innings up already it feels like.

He twice beats Kuldeep Yadav's outside edge, before the left-hander works a single to keep the strike.

  16. Ind 387-8published at 108 overs

Shoaib Bashir continues and Kuldeep Yadav picks up a couple with a nice drive past mid-off.

England are happy for Jasprit Bumrah to take a single off the final ball so he's on strike for James Anderson to target in the next over.

  17. Ind 383-8published at 107 overs

Jasprit Bumrah blocks out the final ball of James Anderson's over.

Anderson now has 693 Test wickets. Will he join the 700 club on this tour?

A fantastic double century for the young man but England have done well to frustrate him out.

Tactics-wise, Ben Stokes has got it spot on again by putting the fielders back and just giving Jaiswal the single. Anderson dragged it a little wider, made him reach for it.

  19. drinks break

Drinks breakpublished at 05:05 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

The players are taking drinks at the fall of that wicket.

The opening hour has seen 13.5 overs, 47 runs and two wickets.

England will be pretty happy, I reckon. Especially if they can get the final two wickets quickly now.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 106.5 overs

    Jaiswal c Bairstow b Anderson 209 (Ind 383-8)

    BIG moment!

Drying up Yashasvi Jaiswal has worked for England there I reckon.

The opener gets frustrated and opts to come down the pitch to James Anderson. He tries to flay over the covers but it goes up in the air and Jonny Bairstow is able to come in from deep cover to take the catch.

It ends a superb innings from Jaiswal and a number of England players go up to him as he walks off. There's also applause from around the ground, including the travelling fans.
