  1. Eng 53-7published at 28 overs

A welcome return for Ravichandran Ashwin, who's returned to the India side today having initially withdrawn from the Test for personal reasons.

He starts with a maiden to Tom Hartley.

Is anyone else feeling a tiny, tiny sliver of nostalgia at this England batting collapse? It's just how I remember them!

  3. Eng 53-7published at 27 overs

Foakes picks up two more pushing into the covers, before Kuldeep ties him down with five scoreless deliveries.

The TV cameras pick out Rehan Ahmed on the balcony, still in his whites and staring into the middle distance.

  4. Eng 51-7published at 26 overs

Ben Foakes gets off the mark by popping Jadeja's ball into the point region.

  5. Eng 50-7published at 25 overs

Tom Hartley is next in the firing line - he survives two Kuldeep deliveries.

England are 32-5 since tea, by the way.

    Former England captain

Rohit has had some stick this series for his captaincy but this last two days he has been magnificent. Great tactics. It started yesterday by stopping Duckett’s boundaries options.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 24.4 overs

    Ahmed c Siraj b Kuldeep 0 (Eng 50-7)

Well, that's certainly an interesting shot choice.

Rehan Ahmed goes for the big heave and can only find Mohammed Siraj riding the long on boundary. He points with his bat to suggest the shot should have gone straighter - well, that's one thing wrong with it.

    India are three away.

  8. Eng 50-6published at 24 overs

Foakes sees out a Jadeja maiden.

Just a hundred-odd more of them then the draw is England's.

  9. Eng 50-6published at 23 overs

Rehan Ahmed joins Ben Foakes at the crease and starts with a solid defence to Kuldeep's final ball.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 22.5 overs

    Stokes lbw b Kuldeep 15 (Eng 50-6)

    No questioning that one.

Stokes attempts an expansive, swipe-y sweep and is caught in front. There's nothing on the bat and it's three reds on ball tracking.

The England skipper departs with his side disintegrating rapidly.

Finger up again for the lbw, it's Stokes this time.

    We review again...

  13. Eng 50-5published at 22 overs

Ben Foakes comes in and defends the final ball of the over.

What most irritates me about this England side is how they act like they invented attacking stroke play. India were going at over 4 for 2 whole days. Jaiswal was on 6 after 40 balls. They play the ball on its given merit; we just hack from ball one. You can be attacking AND smart, it’s not a zero-sum game and never was.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.5 overs

    Root lbw b Jadeja 7 (Eng 50-5)

    Well, that's unfortunate.

It's the calliest of umpire's calls, the absolute edge of the ball clipping an upper slither of off stump.

Much like Zak Crawley earlier, Root departs from an extremely marginal call. But whatever way you slice it, England are almost cooked.

  16. England reviewpublished at 21.5 overs

Another lbw! Jadeja has Joe Root low on the front pad attempting the sweep.

Joe Root's reviewed it - I mean, he had to, didn't he?

  17. Eng 50-4published at 21 overs

Fifty up! Just nine more of these and England are home and dry.

India bring on Kuldeep Yadav for Siraj and Joe Root pats his final ball square for a single.

A couple kept low there, if things couldn't get more ominous for the tourists.

All the chat about Bazball misses the obvious... Our fielding mistakes gave India an extra 150 runs. It was an uphill struggle from there.

Quite hard to believe that India were 33-3 in the first hour of this test.
