  1. Eng 26-2published at 8 overs

Nice and calm from Root and Crawley, just settling everyone's nerves by working the singles.

    Keep it that way, please.

  2. Eng 24-2published at 7 overs

    Lead by 70

Ashwin, ever the competitor, is relishing this situation. Two wickets to his name already, England wobbling but with their best batter in the middle.

He and Jadeja are whizzing through their overs as well, piling on the pressure.

  3. Eng 22-2published at 6.1 overs

    Safely defended by Zak Crawley.

How much of a lead do England need? 200 seems competitive, safe with 250?

Seems pretty far off at the moment.

Was Duckett actually too timid for his dismissal? He looks a better player of spin when he is attacking.

If Joe goes early this could get tricky. The pressure right on England.

  9. Eng 20-2published at 5.1 overs

    Lead by 66

First-innings centurion and so often England's saviour Joe Root is in early.

The crowd, and India's fielders, have come to life.

This is as tough as it gets.

Clipping leg stump and Ollie Pope departs for a golden duck. Ashwin turns the game on its head.

Pope goes back to a fuller delivery, but the ball doesn't turn as he predicts.

It's also a pair for Pope in this Test.

    Two in two?!

Ollie Pope is trapped in front, given on the field.

He reviews with a grimace and a shrug. He needs a miracle to survive this.

    Duckett c Sarfaraz b Ashwin 15 (Eng 19-1)

Ashwin gets India a huge breakthrough.

Ben Duckett was looking to be aggressive with a run-a-ball 15 but it's a defensive prod that leads to his downfall. He plays around his front pad and plops a simple catch to short leg.

Duckett is already showing signs of being the key player for England. One session of his batting could be a 70-run swing in the game.

  14. Eng 17-0published at 4 overs

    Lead by 63

Ben Duckett, as always, looks pretty happy to be facing spin galore but I reckon Crawley would fancy a bit of pace on the ball.

Jadeja keeps firing it in with his metronomic accuracy, but the openers nicely milk the singles.

We're in for a good contest here.

Ashwin gets one to scuttle through low after hitting a crack, before getting some sharp turn.

Duckett responds with a stunning reverse sweep, nailed for four.

    It's on.

I think this is very smart from India to open with the spinners. It is a lot harder for England to get off to a flyer.

  18. Eng 7-0published at 2 overs

    Didn't take long.

Ben Duckett paddle-sweeps over his shoulder for four runs.

Pretty remarkable off Jadeja's second ball.

  19. Eng 2-0published at 1 over

Both batters get themselves off the mark with a single. The pitch didn't do too much for England, and it is quite odd given its behaviour on the first morning.

Immediately rips one past Crawley's outside edge. Hmmm.
