Shoaib Bashir bowled 31 overs in India's first innings and he's got through another 15 already in this one.

    He's earned his lunch.

And I'd like to think I've earned my coffee. I'm taking a break, and here's Matthew Henry to take the reins.

It was a good morning for England. For eight overs it looked like India would canter to victory. One wicket can change everything.

  3. Lunch - Ind 118-3published at 37 overs

    Gill and Jadeja survive.

Another brilliantly gripping session comes to an end.

England need seven wickets, India need 74 more runs.

India know they only have to bat 30 more overs and they win.

  5. Ind 117-3published at 36 overs

    Need 75 to win

Just two from Joe Root's over.

One more before lunch. It would be a great time for a wicket - no pressure, Shoaib.

England's inexperienced spin twins have been fantastic this morning. They have bowled with so much control.

Shoaib Bashir is incredibly calm under pressure, too. Ben Foakes roars from behind the stumps for an lbw, but Bashir just shakes his head and gestures that it's going down leg.

He's not got much Stuart Broad in him, in that regard.

Again just one from the over.

Shubman Gill has recovered from his early jitters. And Jadeja is so experienced, this won't faze him.

England have hope but it's still true that they've got a long way to go.

  10. Ind 114-3published at 33 overs

    Need 78 to win

Shoaib Bashir works his way through another maiden.

One more before lunch? Come on.

  11. Ind 114-3published at 32 overs

    Need 78 to win

It's a cliché, but every run feels so significant. Like each one is worth double.

78 to win, after a flurry of ones and twos, all of a sudden sounds a lot more achievable.

Shoaib Bashir is bowling like peak Graeme Swann here.

Regardless of the result this is very promising for England's future.

Another quiet over, just one from it.

The run-rate has completely stalled in the past five overs or so.

Not much experience in this line-up after Jadeja and Ashwin. This is a much closer match than the scoreboard suggests.

It now looks a completely different game to when Rohit and Jaiswal were cruising this morning.

A bit of Ben Stokes magic in the field would really spark things into life. Here's hoping.

What England would give for another 50 runs. Even 30 runs. All those tiny moments in the game. Losing their last three first-innings wickets for six runs, Robinson's drop of Jurel, 5-23 yesterday. Imagine if India were still 150 adrift.
