Rohit Sharma is cruising through the gears already.

He drills Shoaib Bashir, who offers a tiny bit of width, back over his head of six, before smashing a one-bounce four in the same direction.

There's a little fist pump and smile from Shubman Gill for his skipper.

My only silver lining after yesterday's debacle was that at least I probably wouldn't find myself wide awake at 4am again, wondering how England are getting on. Now even that's gone.

A single apiece for Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

No real signs of movement for James Anderson.

Well, if there is any swing, here's the man to exploit it.

James Anderson, who sits on 698 Test wickets, will get us going at the other end.

I think there is overall agreement that yesterday was England’s worst day of the series. It looks a clearer morning so will there be any swing?

  6. Ind 135-1published at 31 overs

A maiden to start from Shoaib Bashir.

There are a few yelps as encouragement, mixed in with frustration, from England as Rohit Sharma fends towards leg slip, but he perfectly bisects the man there and Ollie Pope at short leg.

    Time for cricket.

Shoaib Bashir has the ball in hand.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, unbeaten on 52 and 26 respectively, are the batters.

Today is the day for Rohit Sharma to enjoy batting. He doesn't have to put his captaincy hat on, he doesn't have to worry about field placements or who's going to bowl.

He can just settle in and bat and he'll be eyeing up another hundred. He played beautifully yesterday.

It was England’s worst day on tour yesterday. If you have the worst day on day one it’s quite a long way back.

England batting coach Marcus Trescothick spoke to TNT Sports at the close of play on day one and said it was a "challenging day".

"We had some good moments - we batted well up until lunch when the ball was swinging around and nipped around more than we expected it to," said Trescothick.

"We've got to come back better tomorrow.

"You never look at a game like you're dead and buried. There will be some guys who can take a look at themselves and think, right, I can do better today so hopefully we can put that right."

    Morning!

A first-innings total of 218, after winning the toss, left England behind in the game.

It got worse when India reached 135-1 at close, just 83 runs behind.

The pitch in Dharamsala looks like an absolute cracker. Will India bury them and take a huge step towards a 4-1 series win?

England's tour of India has been challenging.

Day one of the fifth and final game was among the most challenging.

England are behind the eight-ball. Will they get back in the game?
