And India had no Kohli, imagine how much he would have enjoyed this! Chastening series thrashing.

India's bowling is relentless. There is no let-up. It's not like you get through the openers and then you can cash in on the rest - they are all incredibly good in their own way.

It's unrelenting. They are such a formidable team and the depth they've got is scary.

    Agreed, Nigel.

It's easy to forget that they've had plenty to overcome in this series.

They've been without Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Shami for the whole series, while KL Rahul has missed four Tests.

This series has been a real showing of their depth with Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel both impressing in their debut series.

In all this myopic England bashing, let's have the good grace to allow that this is a very fine Indian team who have performed superbly.

India bowler Ravichandran Ashwin on TNT Sports: "I can't really describe how I'm feeling right now but I am so happy. A lot has happened over the last week or so, a lot of noise around my 100th Test so it has been quite overwhelming.

"But to have a good game personally and take those wickets, that's all I could have asked for.

"I've changed things a lot throughout the series because every surface and every venue has required a different skillset. But overall, I am very pleased with this game, probably my most pleasing performance with Ranchi.

"The game can be played in your head a lot of the time and the beauty of playing in India is that the game is played based on what has happened previously, what the ball has done before is playing in the batter's minds.

"Watching Kuldeep in full flow was wonderful, the way he's adapted over the last year or so is very heartening and I couldn't be happier for him."

England will undoubtedly look to their middle-order as one of the reasons they lost their series 4-1.

They lost Harry Brook on the eve of the series and he was undoubtedly missed.

Joe Root finishes the series with an average of 35.55, which he'll be disappointed with, but Jonny Bairstow down at 23.8, Ben Stokes at 19.9 and Ben Foakes at 20.5 has left England well short.

Credit to India. A thoroughly professional performance and they have been on top since Ollie Pope got out on the stroke of lunch on day one.

4-1 doesn't tell the whole story but I think it's the scoreline most people would have predicted before it started.

England missed a lot of opportunities and that'll be the overriding feeling.

There should be plenty of post-match interviews today with it being the final day of the series.

It has been a fascinating series. I don’t think the final score does justice to how close this series has been.

Apart from this last Test, England were in a winning position in every match.

That's it then. England are heading home with a 4-1 series defeat.

They have been completely outplayed in this fifth and final Test and will be left to rue their first-innings effort.

Throughout the series they have been pretty competitive but they've just not been able to get it right in the key moments and that has led to a heavy defeat.

Ah. No need for the extended session.

Joe Root looks to go for the big shoot, advancing down the pitch to Kuldeep Yadav.

He can't clear long-on though and stand-in Jasprit Bumrah is able to settle under it and take a smart catch.

I don't doubt there's a difference between what England say in the media and what is said internally in their own minds and in the dressing room.

They are professional sportspeople, of course they will down/hurt by defeats.

Just a reminder that the tea interval will be pushed back now with England nine down.

I think we could do with a behind the scenes documentary about this England team so we can understand better how they train, discuss strategy, select teams and generally feel a bit more connected. I think most people are a bit fed up of the relentless positivity in the face of crushing defeat.

Hahaha, Shoaib Bashir tried to review that dismissal.

He didn't realise he'd be bowled because Dhruv Jurel caught the ball too so he thought India were appealing for the caught behind.

He did the T sign and everything.

    It's Joe Root sweeping.

The reverse is superbly placed and he picks up another boundary.

He's up to 82. Will he reach a century?

England have been found wanting at almost every key moment in the series. Dropped catches have proved vital, and the arrogance of the batting has been shocking. Does anyone think they will reflect on this?

    A beauty.

Shoaib Bashir gets stuck on the back foot and that's always dangerous to Ravindra Jadeja.

The left-arm spinner skids one past the defence and it just clips off stump.

The wicket ends a stand of 48 between Bashir and Joe Root.

He doesn't get this one either, with an inside edge dropping short of slip and dribbling away for four.
