The rain has relented at Old Trafford, but the damage has long been done.

The outfield has taken a pounding and so the decision has been made not to have any play today.

It's no surprise - I live just down the road - and my local football pitch is like a paddy field.

  2. wicket

WICKET Nair c Coles b Robinsonpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 42-3

Sussex have three wickets and Northants are still 65 runs adrift.

Ollie Robinson draws Karun Nair into a defensive push and the resulting nick is superbly taken low by a diving James Coles at third slip, diving across second.

    George Bartlett to bat next.

  3. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 283-3

We have a delay at Edgbaston as a member of the ground staff gets to work on a part of the bowler run up at the Birmingham End.

I can't describe the item being used except to say it looks a bit like a long-handled spade and is being used the flatten the surface.

  4. Postpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 40-2

A second successive maiden for Ollie Robinson.

Jayden Seales is bowling with good pace and the sun is shining at Hove.

Luke Procter picks up four more runs driven down the ground. The Northants captain ducks under a rapid bouncer to see out the over.

  5. 50 runs

for Harry Brookpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 8 April

    Yorkshire 159-3 v Leicestershire 354

Harry Brook pushes one out into the covers from Ben Mike and jogs through for one.

That is 50 off 35 balls.

He looks in the mood for plenty more. Like a class sportsperson, he is making it look easy.

  6. Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 279-3

Chris Rushworth has replaced Oliver Hannon-Dalby in the attack.

Jake Libby moves to 94 with a deft nudge to a vacant third man off a short ball for four. Lovely shot.

We have a patch of sawdust on an area of concern on the run up from the Birmingham End.

  7. 'Extraordinary from Cook'published at 14:21 British Summer Time 8 April

    Notts 293 & 59-8 v Essex 253 & 374-9 dec

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham

This is an extraordinary performance from Sam Cook.

He's had a terrific visit to Nottingham.

  8. Kent into the leadpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 8 April

    Kent 284 & 120-3 v Somerset 403

Kasey Aldridge bowls a no-ball, which brings the scores level, before Joe Denly's pull shot for a single gives Kent a one-run lead.

He and Daniel Bell-Drummond are doing a decent job of taking the sting out of this one.

  9. Five-wicket haul for Sam Cookpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 8 April

    Notts 293 & 59-8 v Essex 253 & 374-9 dec

    Chapeau Chef!

No longer little Chef, more Master Chef with this display, Sam Cook!

Brett Hutton lasts three balls before his middle stump is knocked flat to the floor by another unerringly accurate Cook delivery.

Five in the innings, nine in the match including a hat-trick.

    Outstanding performance.

Any chance of a positive result disappeared long ago at Lord's and Middlesex continue to progress towards Glamorgan's mammoth first-innings total.

It's a pretty relaxed final day for all concerned - Tom Helm even found time to chat to one of the spectators before heading out to the middle to bat again after lunch.

  11. Postpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 36-2

Good spell from Ollie Robinson - who bowls a maiden fifth over.

Luke Procter leaves Jayden Seales outside off but plays and misses at the third to the chagrin of the three slips.

But Procter's next shot is a textbook drive to long off for four.

  12. wicket

WICKET Harrison lbw b Cook 1published at 14:14 British Summer Time 8 April

    Notts 293 & 59-7 v Essex 253 & 374-9 dec

Sam Cook - seam bowling doesn't get much better than this!

    His figures now read 10.2-8-9-4.

He hasn't conceded a run since lunch and he now has Calvin Harrison trapped in front.

Only the weather can stop Essex and Cook now.

  13. dropped catch

Hose dropped on 10published at 14:12 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 271-3

Adam Hose drives Oliver Hannon-Dalby, who is down on the deck to field off his own bowling. No run - and not far off a caught and bowled!

Half chance. Really tough one in truth.

    Maiden over.

  14. Brook blitzpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 8 April

    Yorkshire 144-3 v Leicestershire 354

Tom Scriven is thrown the ball to bowl at Harry Brook.

Wallop! A little width outside off and that is crunched to the fence.

Then there is the touch as Brook runs the next ball past backward point for another four.

And then he blitzes the next one for four past mid-off.

12 off the over - Brook on 46 off 29 balls.

  15. 'A draw looking increasingly likely'published at 14:09 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 266-3

    Mike Taylor
    BBC Radio WM

The likelihood of a positive result is disappearing, partly because Worcestershire have not batted with any great enterprise so far.

There is now more concern shown by the umpires, in particular about the bowlers' run-ups at the Birmingham End of the ground.

So a draw looking increasingly likely in a game in which Worcestershire have made the running.

  16. wicket

WICKET Gay b Seales 20published at 14:07 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 31-2

A no ball from Jayden Seales is glanced to fine leg for four by Emilio Gay but the opener is out this time.

Jayden Seales unleashes a perfect yorker to knock out the off stump.

Northants remain 76 runs in the red with 67 overs remaining if the weather holds.

Karun Nair joins Northants captain Luke Procter in the middle.

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 265-3

Oliver Hannon-Dalby bowls for WarwickshireImage source, Getty Images

Adam Hose is well forward to defend against the bowling of Oliver Hannon-Dalby.

There is clearly still some concern about the condition of the bowler run-ups and Bears skipper Alex Davies has been chatting to the umpires.

Hose gets away with a leg bye and Jake Libby moves to 86 with a single pushed through cover. Hannon-Dalby is continuing to vary the angle of his run to avoid part of the square.

  18. wicket

WICKET Haynes lbw b Porter 7published at 14:03 British Summer Time 8 April

    Notts 293 & 56-6 v Essex 253 & 374-9 dec

If Sam Cook doesn't get you, Jamie Porter will!

Excellent stuff from Porter, right on the money as he raps Jack Haynes on the pads.

Pretty straight and good enough for umpire Tom Lungley to raise his finger.

Essex really closing in on victory now.

  19. Postpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 8 April

    Kent 284 & 97-3 v Somerset 403

Joe Denly has only been in about 15 minutes but a couple of boundaries off Lewis Goldsworthy mean he has already overtaken the run tally of his captain Daniel Bell-Drummond, who has been in for close to 20 overs.

Bell-Drummond whacks a four of his own to retake the lead between Kent's fourth-wicket pair.

    The hosts are 22 behind.

  20. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 8 April

    Yorkshire 130-3 v Leicestershire 354

Harry Brook has got to 15 with three quick boundaries.

This is his first Championship cricket since 2022 and his first red-ball cricket of any type since the Ashes last summer.

He begins this Scott Currie over with a couple before unfurling a lofted on-drive to the ropes.

Currie drops short. Fatal! Brooks swivels and pulls it nonchalantly for six. That is the 50 partnership already.

And again! Short and same result - six for Brook!

18 off the over. Brook races to 33 off 20 balls.
