This could be a really entertaining session of cricket for those who have been patient and hung around.

  2. Postpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 262-3

Danny Briggs had bowled 13 overs in his innings but the 14th is the unlucky one in this game.

He starts with two successive wides and the last ball of the over is wide and cut to the fence for four by Jake Libby.

  3. Postpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 23-1

Ollie Robinson bowls very straight to Luke Procter, who jabs the bat down defensively in time.

Just the two runs off the over.

Jayden Seales starts his third over with a no ball that passes the outside edge of Emilio Gay's bat.

Gay drives to point where a good stop prevents the run.

He sways out of the way of a quick bouncer and clips the last ball of the over through square leg for four with immaculate timing.

While play is yet to begin at Old Trafford, BBC Radio Lancashire's Scott Read has spoken to Lancashire and England fast bowler Saqib Mahmood.

He has been out training this month as he fights his way back from injury and what hopefully will be a return to action.

The 27-year-old has wretched luck since playing two Tests for England in 2022 in the Caribbean.

And he admits that he considered turning his back on red-ball cricket this summer.

"Initially I didn’t want to play red-ball cricket this season, that was something I decided last year around August, September time," he said.

"It was my initial mindset because I’d missed two years of cricket and I wanted to contribute in T20 cricket rather than not contribute at all.

"I was quite nervous around coming back and playing red-ball cricket.

"When Dale Benkenstein came in, I had a few chats with him and he told me the importance of me in the team and the impact I could have especially here at Emirates Old Trafford.

"I know I’ve got to do it properly. Last year I blame myself, I was undercooked going in and I wasn’t ready to play.

"I pushed for something purely because there was an Ashes series that I wanted to try to play in.

"This time around I’m trying to be smart, sometimes I can be my own worst enemy."

  5. wicket

WICKET Leaning b Goldsworthy 32published at 13:51 British Summer Time 8 April

    Kent 284 & 68-3 v Somerset 403

    Gone!

Jack Leaning looked excellent before lunch but he's gone in the second over after the resumption.

He played for a bit more spin that was actually there from slow left armer Lewis Goldsworthy and the ball slips between bat and pad onto the stumps.

Joe Denly is next in for Kent, who still trail by 51.

  6. Postpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 250-3

Full toss from Danny Briggs and Adam Hose sweeps for an easy single.

He goes for the second and has to dive to make his ground in time!

Hose sweeps again and sends the ball to deep square leg for one after a good diving stoop by Michael Booth.

That run takes the Pears to 250 in the 57th over.

  7. 50 runs

for Adam Lythpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 8 April

    Yorkshire 88-3 v Leicestershire 354

It's a 70th half-century of his first-class career for Adam Lyth and he is timing the ball sweetly.

He has already hit some lovely shots through the covers in this innings with 10 fours.

  8. wicket

WICKET Montgomery b Cook 12published at 13:49 British Summer Time 8 April

    Notts 293 & 50-5 v Essex 253 & 374-9 dec

Sam Cook needs only three balls after lunch to strike!

Matt Montgomery had battled so hard this morning, but he makes the fatal mistake of shouldering arms.

Don't do that to Cook - he is far too accurate - and the off-stump goes careering out of the ground.

    Essex halfway to victory.

  9. Postpublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 8 April

    Kent 284 & 68-2 v Somerset 403

Matt Renshaw has been handed the ball after lunch to bowl some off spin under sunny skies at Canterbury. He opens up with a maiden.

Spin from both ends, actually, as Lewis Goldsworthy will follow with the next over.

  10. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 8 April

    Notts 293 & 50-4 v Essex 253 & 374-9 dec

He begins the session with a maiden to Jack Haynes.

Sam Cook to resume at the other end to Matt Montgomery.

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 247-3

Adam Hose is still looking for his first run after 10 balls - and he'll get off the mark this time with a checked drive down the ground for one.

Jake Libby blocks on the back foot to see out the over.

  12. 'Hill didn't have control'published at 13:44 British Summer Time 8 April

    Yorkshire 73-3 v Leicestershire 354

George Hill caught it quite low on the bat, he took one hand off and just didn't have the control.

  13. Play resumes at Hovepublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371 & 14-1

An early wicket or two in this session could raise Sussex hopes for an unlikely win as we go into the penultimate session of the match.

Emilio Gay is 12 not out and back in the middlle with his captain Luke Procter on two.

The ground staff are hovering close to the covers under greying skies.

Jayden Seales will bowl the first over of the session from the Sea End to Procter.

  14. Here's Harrypublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 8 April

    Yorkshire 77-4 v Leicestershire 354

    Welcome back, Harry!

Second ball from Matt Salisbury is an over-pitched half-volley and is greeted with an effortless off-drive from Harry Brook.

We should be in for a good afternoon with shots like that.

  15. Postpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 246-3

Danny Briggs gets a leading edge off Jake Libby but the ball squirts out safely into the off side and takes a single.

Adam Hose takes a leg bye off the last ball of the over.

  16. wicket

  17. wicket

WICKET Hill c Harris b Salisbury 13published at 13:37 British Summer Time 8 April

    Yorkshire 73-3 v Leicestershire 354

We have cricket at Headingley. And we have a wicket!

Adam Lyth takes a single off the third ball of Matt Salisbury's first over before George Hill falls to his first ball faced today as he chips one up to mid-off for a simple catch.

But it results in Harry Brook coming to the crease.

  18. Postpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 243-2

Danny Briggs is over the wicket to Rob Jones, who closes the face of the bat to turn the ball to leg for one.

The Pears batters trade in singles - and then Jones gets away with a top-edged sweep which drops the ball just short of backward square leg.

  19. Postpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 239-2

A moment of panic as Rob Jones calls Jake Libby for a late single but the run out is averted.

Two runs scored in the over.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby will bowl from the Birmingham End and he'll be relieved to note that the crosswind which had often disrupted his run up last weekend has eased.

Warwickshire are on the defensive with two fielders back on the hook.

Mm. OHD has pulled out of his delivery again. Concern over the bowler run ups?

He's changed the angle of his run slightly, bowling a bit wider of the crease. Maiden over.

  20. 'Severe risk of cricket breaking out at Headingley'published at 13:32 British Summer Time 8 April

    Yorkshire 72-2 v Leicestershire 354 - delayed start

    Richard Rae

Umpires in discussion at HeadingleyImage source, Rex Features

There's a severe risk of cricket breaking out at Headingley, where umpires Mark Newell and Jack Shantry have decreed the outfield - or to be more precise, the square surrounds - are finally dry enough to be played upon.

And while the result is a foregone conclusion, it could be a really entertaining 66 overs. Adam Lyth looked in prime form in racing to 43 back on Saturday evening, and there's the prospect of England's Harry Brook coming to the crease at the fall of the next wicket.

Leicestershire's Ben MIke will also be keen to continue to impress on his return to the county where he spent last season, having already hit a stylish 90 with the bat and accounted for Finlay Bean and Shan Masood with the ball.
