  1. 'Gregory looks like he could take a wicket with every ball'published at 12:43 British Summer Time 8 April

    Kent 284 & 46-2 v Somerset 403

    Matt Cole
    BBC Radio Kent

Lewis Gregory has looked the most threatening from the entire bowling attack so far.

They've been good so far, Somerset, but Gregory is looking like he could take a wicket with every ball.

  2. 'There's still a bit of work to do'published at 12:41 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

Talking to the Northampton camp last night, they were conscious of the fact that they might have to bat facing a deficit if Sussex have a good morning, which they have had and there's still a bit of work to do - especially if we get a full day's play.

  3. Sussex declare after batting feastpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 478-9 dec v Northants 371

Shot! Ollie Robinson missed a reverse sweep earlier but he's got hold of that ball from Saif Zaib and smokes it square for four.

He repeats the shot next ball and runs two.

Single off the third ball and Jayden Seales is on bended knee with a slog sweep, belting Zaib into the pavilion for six!

That little onslaught has prompted a Sussex declaration with an innings lead of 107. Great morning session of play for Sussex.

  4. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 8 April

    Kent 284 & 42-2 v Somerset 403

Massive appeal from Somerset as Daniel Bell-Drummond pads up to a ball that jagged back a touch from outside off stump.

Again, Lewis Gregory doesn't get the response he'd like from the umpire.

An important spell before lunch here. Another Somerset breakthrough will give them real hope of an unlikely win.

  5. Postpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 8 April

    Notts 293 & 35-3 v Essex 253 & 374-9 dec

Jamie Porter returns to the attack after Sam Cook's seven super overs.

Notts need 300 off 74 overs to win, but Joe Clarke and particularly Matt Montgomery are in survival mode right now.

Essex still have the off-spin of Simon Harmer up their sleeves. They hold all the aces at the moment.

  6. Postpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 465-9 v Northants 371

A first boundary for Jayden Seales, driving a full toss from Michael Finan over long on.

Poor ball, but not a bad shot for a number 11 even so.

  7. 'Let's try to get something on today'published at 12:32 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 237-2 - delayed start

    Dan Whiting
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire

Let's be bold, let's try to get something on today.

It's still enough time to bowl somebody out, especially if there is a little bit of nibble in the pitch, especially if it's damp conditions.

I think it will all depend on how much Worcestershire trust the Kookaburra ball because it's got a reputation for going a little bit dead perhaps.

So it will be interesting to see if Worcestershire want to give Warwickshire a sniff or whether they are happy to come out of here with 14 points, which would be a great reward for the first game of the season.

  8. wicket

WICKET Carson b Zaib 61published at 12:31 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 458-9 v Northants 371

Third bowling point for Northants and a fourth wicket for Saif Zaib.

Slightly back of a length on middle stump.

Jack Carson tries a wild cross batted heave, misses and the ball rips out middle and leg.

Time for Jayden Seales to have a bat.

Sam Cook, the Essex wicketkeeper and all the slips are convinced that they have Matthew Montgomery.

The batter offers no stroke and is hit on the pads, but the finger does not go up.

Wonderful opening spell this from Cook - 6-4-9-2.

  10. dropped catch

Robinson dropped on 19published at 12:30 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 457-8 v Northants 371

Ollie Robinson tries to reverse sweep Saif Zaib but he's picked out the fielder at backward point.

Single off the second ball through the off side.

Jack Carson gets a single to cover. Robinson lofts a drive to long off... spilled by Chris Tremain - and that ball runs away for four.

  11. Postpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 8 April

    Kent 284 & 36-2 v Somerset 403

Almost an instant impact by Somerset captain Lewis Gregory, who brings himself on to bowl and twice within three balls appeals unsuccessfully for lbw against his opposing skipper Daniel Bell-Drummond.

Both looked pretty close but the umpire is unmoved.

  12. Five batting points for Sussexpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 450-8 v Northants 371

Robinson hammers Finan down the ground for one to move to 16.

Jack Carson misses the middle on a lofted drive gets an outside edge to third man for four.

No slips. But not surprising, in all fairness at this stage.

    There's the fifth batting point!

Finan pushes the ball out wide and Carson is forward and across to drive for a single through cover.

  13. 'The heat lamps remain in place at the run-ups'published at 12:24 British Summer Time 8 April

    Warwks 333 v Worcs 360 & 237-2 - delayed start

    Mike Taylor
    BBC Radio WM

The heat lamps remain in place at the run-ups at either end of the field.

The latest is the umpires have had a look, they are going to inspect again at 13:00.

They have declared the lunch break at 12:45 with a view to a 13:25 start, that would mean 28 overs being deducted from the day's play.

All of which would mean that we are probably that much closer to a draw or somebody is daring to try to win it.

  14. wicket

    WICKET Roland-Jones c Cooke b McIlroy 20published at 12:23 British Summer Time 8 April

    Middlesex 518-7 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec

Jamie McIlroy gets his reward for toiling away.

Toby Roland-Jones is tempted into a waft outside off-stump and is caught behind.

Middlesex are still 100 runs behind, but this match is drifting towards a draw.

  15. Postpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 8 April

    Kent 284 & 30-2 v Somerset 403

Jack Leaning and Daniel Bell-Drummond both hit boundaries in the same Jake Ball over to move Kent up to 30-2, still 89 behind Somerset.

  16. Postpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 8 April

    Sussex 444-8 v Northants 371

Finan is well wide of off stump and it's called as wide by the umpire.

The sun is out at Hove and we maybe among the luckier of the cricketing shires today.

Saif Zaib comes into the attack for the first time today and Robinson clips the second ball down to long on for a single.

One more to Carson clipped square and now a mid wicket comes in for Robinson, who again gets away with a single to long on.

  18. Clarke in good nickpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 8 April

    Notts 293 & 30-3 v Essex 253 & 374-9 dec

After four overs and the vital wicket of Ben Duckett, Jamie Porter makes way for Shane Snater.

Joe Clarke appreciates it as he plays a super cut shot to get four welcome runs.

After a century in the first innings, Clarke looks in good touch.

And a second four in the over, again off the back foot.
