  1. 'We definitely have an issue' - Mercedes' Wolffpublished at 22:38 British Summer Time

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff on penalties on Sky Sports: "It's inconsistent. Yesterday, we've seen a few of those incidents which were exactly the same that weren't penalised, racing for positions actually, real positions and receiving that penalty is just completely odd and bizarre. I think we know but obviously you can't say that on television, some of that decision making at the end."

"Sometimes there's correlations... between when there is a decision-making that is a bit interesting."

On Lewis Hamilton's exit from race: "[It was] 100% the car. I think he was not even pushing at that stage. We've seen it yesterday with George that was maybe overpushing it but still abrupt, losing it, putting it in the wall, and today, such a situation, there was wind, there was a little bit of dirty air, we definitely have an issue, I don't know whether it was yesterday the same and today. Lewis Hamilton doesn't lose a car on lap five like this."

On stewards: "It's a difficult job and some are very good, some are trying their best and you need to salute these guys."

  4. 'Stewards interfered with a beautiful piece of motorsport' - McLarenpublished at 22:26 British Summer Time

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella: "My view is that the way the stewards interfered with a beautiful piece of motorsport was inappropriate because both cars went off track so both cars gained an advantage. It's a shame because it cost us a podium, it cost us a race where we stayed patient after we were pushed off in the first lap, the first corner. We accepted it.

"Having said very clearly our position, this kind of position by the stewards, this kind of decision cannot be appealed. For us the chapter is now closed and we move on to the next race.

"Both cars went off track so for us there was no doubt that the manoeuvre was correct."

  5. 'Wasn't our day today' - Norris on fourthpublished at 22:22 British Summer Time

Lando Norris talking to BBC's Jennie Gow: "I feel alright. Of course, not my best race again. With the loss in turn one and just the racing at the end, yeah, clearly wasn't enough so that's life, didn't do a good enough job but I gave it a good shot so, I'm doing my best, my best isn't good enough sometimes. It just wasn't our day today."

On talking to stewards: "Maybe we'll have a talk. I feel like there's plenty of scenarios where people wouldn't get a penalty in case of what happened."

On whether he should have given the place back: "It's tough to know. Maybe that was my one opportunity that I had. Max was defending well and was not easy to overtake so impossible to know."

  6. 'I got worst of the start' - Sainz on second placepublished at 22:18 British Summer Time

Carlos Sainz on finishing second for Ferrari: "Obviously I knew was going to be decided at the start. I knew Lando [Norris] and Max [Verstappen] were going to go hard into turn one and unfortunately I got the worst of it and I couldn't get that lead and even though the pace was good from then on was really good and all weekend I was really fast, track position is key and I had to settle to P2 which anyway was a good race."

On tyre management: "It's definitely a strength of the car this year, how long we can go on stints and how little [degradation] we have, it's something I really enjoy and that has made me enjoy racing a lot more this year than what I did last year."

On season so far: "Last year, we spent all of the races defending, losing position. This year, it looks we can just go on attack mode, don't think too much about tyres and just push and overtake which is fun and enjoy it a lot and I just hope it stays like that until the end of the year."

  7. 'It was a tough battle' - Verstappenpublished at 22:14 British Summer Time

Red Bull's Max Verstappen who finished third place because of a five-second penalty for Lando Norris: "For me, it was quite a difficult race. I didn't have the pace to attack, it was a bit different to yesterday. Just understeering a lot, struggling on the braking. That made the defending quite difficult because every time someone wanted to go for a move, I couldn't really brake that late. It was a tough battle. I tried everything I could to keep him [Norris] behind. To be on the podium for us is a good result.

On the battle with McLaren's Norris: "You know I have my opinions but I don't need to say it here, I'll let the stewards do their thing. For us it was a race where we learnt a lot and we will learn from that."

  8. 'We couldn’t have dreamed for better' - Leclercpublished at 22:09 British Summer Time

Charles Leclerc, who takes his third victory of the season in the Ferrari" “Very happy, it hasn’t been an easy weekend until now I have been struggling with the feeling in the car but I had the confidence in the race and the feeling was better.

“We said in the sprint race we weren’t scared but we felt that the others will improve but today we still had the upper hand so really happy with how it went today, a one-two for the team, we couldn’t have dreamed for better.”

On Turn One at the start of the race: “It was a pretty good Turn One, that is exactly how I wanted to do, we had a good launch and I knew it would be tight. Yesterday I was a bit of a victim being in the wrong place at the wrong time, today I gained from it and that helped a lot in our first stint because we had a lot of mega pace.

“In the second stint it was all about managing behind but we did a great job, the pace of the car this weekend was really good and that’s thanks to the engineers. They’ve been working like crazy to bring the upgrades that we had in Singapore and it seems to be paying off. Everything worked out well and we are really really happy.”

On it being 18 years since Ferrari have had a one-two in the US: “Very happy and now we are still targeting the title, it’s still a long way to go but it’s a good start to this triple header.”

The Italian national anthem is being sung with gusto by the Ferrari team below the podium. The party in Texas is going to be a big one! Or maybe not, as we're heading straight to Mexico next week for the second race of this triple-header.

Time to soak everyone with champagne. The trophy was just a Pirelli tyre. Bummer.

It's going to be a hard pill to swallow for Norris and McLaren because they have been used to really having a car that is competitive right at the very front.

  15. Lawson and Colapinto score pointspublished at 21:50 British Summer Time

This has been a memorable return for Liam Lawson. The New Zealander replaced Daniel Ricciardo following the Singapore Grand Prix and after a fantastic recovery drive in Austin - remember he inherited an engine penalty and started at the back - he's put points on the board with a ninth-placed finish.

Over at Williams, rookie Franco Colapinto, another driver who was also a mid-season swap, ends his day at COTA in 10th and picks up one point.

And I shouldn't forget Nico Hulkenberg. Another excellent performance by the German adds four more points to his championship score.

  16. 'Norris will be deflated'published at 21:47 British Summer Time

    Harry Benjamin
    BBC F1 Commentator

Norris will be, I'm sure, a little deflated, as he gets out of his McLaren, takes his gloves off, starts to walk towards the FIA parc ferme area to be weighed and measured and that'll be a bit of a tough pill to swallow.

  17. Postpublished at 21:45 British Summer Time

What an end to this race. Max Verstappen is given third place after Lando Norris' penalty is applied. The Briton will have to settle for fourth place, with his McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri finishing fifth.

From way back in the pit lane, George Russell has recovered from his miserable Saturday to come home in sixth place. If you missed the start of the race, Lewis Hamilton retired very early on after beaching his Mercedes.

McLaren fans will find that hard to take and they will feel a little bit hard done by given that at other previous races we haven't had penalties for the same thing.
