With only eight races left on the calendar, Lando Norris has to be practically perfect in his pursuit of a maiden world champion. It was tall order already to overhaul three-time world champion Max Verstappen, but now the job has become even harder from P15.

Norris was the shock elimination yesterday when he found yellow flags for a slow-moving Alpine of Esteban Ocon on his final lap in Q1.

Speaking to Sky Sports earlier on his move up the field, he said: "I'm 15th on the grid, so I'm getting there already. It feels different. I think the biggest difference is the lights come on a lot quicker than they do when you're at the front.

"It doesn't change too much. The task for me every day is for to go out and just do my job, do what I do best. We can still have some fun, It's just our lives are a bit more stressful and probably harder at the back than what would've been if we were at the front.

"Our plans and mentality are the same."

Lewis Hamilton's drop to the pit lane means a fair few drivers get to start today's 51-lap Azerbaijan Grand Prix one place further up the field. The most notable being the two rookies on the grid: Franco Colapinto and Briton Ollie Bearman.

Argentine Colapinto is now up to P8 from his original ninth position, while teenager Bearman, who just missed out on a Q3 appearance yesterday, now gets begin his latest race in Formula 1 inside the top 10.

Bearman already has six points in the drivers' championship after his super-sub outing for Ferrari's Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia in March.

Lewis Hamilton will start from the pit lane after Mercedes chose to take a new engine and, having made that decision, also modify the set-up.

The decision moves Lando Norris up to 15th - the McLaren driver has now gained two places from his 17th qualifying position. He had already moved up thanks to Pierre Gasly’s disqualification for fuel-flow irregularities.

As for Hamilton, he had a failure earlier in the year and Mercedes knew they would have to take another at some point to make it comfortably to the end of the season. In Baku, a long straight, Mercedes being the fastest cars on it, and a not-great qualifying in seventh made it logical to do it this weekend.

Hamilton said: "We lost an engine earlier in the year, making it to the end of the year with only a couple of engines would not be so easy.

"But it’s the best circuit to do so. We are quick on the straights. Not going to be easy but I’ll do my best. “We have been able to make some changes to the car, there were some things not right with the car yesterday."

Alpine's Esteban Ocon, on his 150th grand prix, will also be starting from the pit lane in Azerbaijan after taking multiple new power unit elements following qualifying.

Three pole positions, zero race victories. Baku has so far been a mixed bag of emotions for Charles Leclerc.

The Ferrari driver, fresh off his magical Monza win last time out, banked his fourth consecutive front-row spot for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix during yesterday's top-10 shootout and is aiming follow up his emotional win at Monza last time out with back-to-back race triumphs.

By the law of averages, surely this will be Leclerc's moment to shine?
