Jeremiah Kariuki: Piastri and Leclerc are like two marathon runners, dropping every other runner one by one as they up their performance. Perez is now dropped.

Another opportunity presents itself for Charles Leclerc to reclaim the lead down at Turn One. The McLaren of Oscar Piastri has to put up his defences once again as the Ferrari sticks his nose in but no dice for Leclerc.

There is no way they can risk bringing either of these drivers [Piastri and Leclerc] in. It's so close it only takes the tinniest of mistakes, this is a race of real concentration now.

Oscar Piastri is one step closer to another Formula 1 win as the laps tick down in Baku. He's holding the lead firmly in his grasp but the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc is trying to hound him into a mistake.

Norris has come out right behind Verstappen, he is 15 seconds back but he's on a brand new set of medium tyres.

We know Verstappen is struggling and isn't happy with the performance of the car. I wonder if there is still an opportunity for Norris to take points out of a Verstappen championship lead.

Ok, so Ferrari are back on the phone to Charles Leclerc to say they're thinking about 'Plan C'. Leclerc replies to that call, definitely with the word "not stupid".

Lando Norris is down to seventh after pitting from fifth a lap on lap 38.

Travis Bickle: An absolutely phenomenal scrap for the podium. Could finish in any combination. Really hope it doesn't end in a collision, bumper-to-bumper to the chequered flag please.

Ferrari have been on the blower to Charles Leclerc to give the Monegasque man some pit strategy updates. Keep your eyes peeled as to what McLaren do with Oscar Piastri, because we'll be doing the opposite, looks to be the call.

Alex Albon is in 10th place after his epic stint on the hards and now that he's on the mediums, the Williams man is trying to take Nico Hulkenberg P9 spot. Access denied. Albon will have to wait for another chance to pass the Haas.

"Come on Charles, keep it up!" Leclerc's engineer tells him from the pit wall. But his newest move to try and pass Oscar Piastri sees his Ferrari take a huge slide at Turn 16.

McLaren have got their eyes on the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, informing the Australian that his rival's rear tyres look worse than his.

What Piastri is doing very well is that he's going to the inside towards the end of that start-finish straight. There was a gap and we wonder if Leclerc needs to go more to the inside and squeezing it down the inside into Turn One.

It comprises the corner but if he can get it under control and maintain track position, that could be his opportunity.

An overtake that has been completed is George Russell on Max Verstappen. Unlike seasons before, the Dutchman is not at the front of the pack, he's down in seventh instead, while Russell claims his P6 spot.

  15. Piastri stays ahead of Leclercpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 15 September

    Lap 33/51

Oscar Piastri is defending this potential win with everything he has. Charles Leclerc tries his luck again at the start of lap 33 but openings, this time on the outside of the McLaren, just aren't there for the Ferrari man.

The tussle between the two allows Sergio Perez to close up even further in the Red Bull.

Charles Leclerc's engineer is on the team radio to tell the Monegasque driver he's doing a good job so far. Over at Williams, it's Alex Albon's time to come in for his pit stop. Hard tyres ditched, mediums on and he's back out in P11.

It's heart in the mouth stuff if you're an Oscar Piastri fan. The Ferrari is getting closer, there's no doubt about that, but Charles Leclerc just cannot find the killer blow.

Behind the front two, Sergio Perez is third, Carlos Sainz is fourth and the non-stoppers Alex Albon and Lando Norris are fifth and sixth.

  20. 'Ferrari have fundamental performance advantage'published at 13:00 British Summer Time 15 September

    Andrew Benson
    BBC F1 correspondent

It looks to me that the Ferrari is fundamentally the quickest car, you can't normally stay this close for this long on the Pirelli tyres without having a fundamental performance advantage.

The only question is, can Leclerc do something before the tyres really don't have enough grip left for him to make that move.
