  1. In the middlepublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

The group of six - consisting of Pawels, Sicard, Gautier, Huzarski, Vachon and Majka - are bridging the prloton and the front three breakaway riders nicely. they're 2mins 23secs down on the leaders.

The peloton though is a worrying 13mins 37secs behind.

  2. Kittel's mathspublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

Yesterday's stage winner Marcel Kittel offered up a bit of mathematics to work out whether the breakaway would stay out in front today.

I'm assuming X is number of wheels on the bike, with the p the amount of porridge eaten in the morning.

  3. Big gap formingpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

    79km to go

It's looking rosier and rosier for the breakaway.

The peloton has drifted 13 minutes away. That's pretty huge. Do they have it under control or is this slipping away?

Maybe there's no perceived GC threats in there and the peloton is happy to let them have the stage.

Greg van Avermaet, one of the three men out front, is the virtual yellow jersey leader.

Jill has helped me out with songs that feature more than one language.

It's not bi-lingual, but I do know all the words to La Bamba...

Jill Hyde: Beatles 'Michelle', ELO 'Hold on Tight', David Gates 'Took the Last Train'. All multi-lingual

  11. Which puncher has the knockout blow?published at 13:22 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

Left jab, right hook, uppercuts, haymakers. If you've got the punches, you have a chance to win.

If you can pounce out of the peloton on a steep climb, today might be your day.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee...

  12. Can one of the breakaway groups hold on?published at 13:17 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

    Rob Hatch
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

I don't think this breakaway is enough. In the break there are a few riders who could well be policing things for other riders later today. For example, Romain Bardet comes from this region - he has Cyril Gautier up the road and could plan something.

With the combination of riders we have got in the two breakaway groups, we have four teams with potential GC riders presented - Astana, Tinkoff, BMC and AG2R La Mondiale, which takes a lot of pressure off of them and adds a little bit on to the other teams like Sky, Movistar and FDJ.

  17. Yellow jerseypublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

The only man in that breakaway who is level in the GC with Chris Froome is Greg van Avermaet.

He sits on +18secs with the Team Sky man and currently leads the virtual yellow jersey rankings.

  18. Disagreement at the frontpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 6 July 2016

    120km to go

That group of nine that had broken away is not getting along.

It's now a group of three - Van Avermaet, Grivko and De Gendt - after disagreements about rotating who should go on front.

They've dropped the other six, including Rafal Majka, and they are stranded between the leaders and the peloton, which is six minutes behind.
