Let's leave it there. Another monumental day on Tour, but Chris Froome survives again. This is a man who is not only a talented cyclist, but as tough as they come.

See our developing report for more reaction, I'll see you again soon.

  2. 'Tour never over until end'published at 17:01 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

Chris Froome on ITV4: "Today showed exactly why I thought the Tour was not over. I was really grateful nothing is seriously injured but it could have gone either way. There is never a quiet day on the Tour.

On using Geraint Thomas' bike, he added: "I know the car was quite a while back and my bike wasn't ridable, so thanks a lot to Geraint for his bike. It was alright.

"Tomorrow will be hard, I'm sure I will be sore and stiff from today but hopefully I can rely on my team-mates again to get through tomorrow."

  3. Froome feels 'lucky' to come through crashpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

Chris Froome on ITV4: "Ironically, I was trying to stay safe but I hit one of the white lines and lost my front wheel. I'm OK, I'm lucky nothing is seriously injured. I lost some skin and banged my knee a little bit but today I'm grateful to have that four minute advantage to fall on  a little bit. It was great to have team-mates around me, Wout Poels in particular. It feels good to be one day closer to the finish."

  4. Thanks budpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

Just seeing replays of Chris Froome crossing the line with a bloodied shoulder. He patted Wout Poels as he finished, and owes the Dutchman a huge vote of thanks. Poels helped drag Froome back from the brink.

BMC Richie Porte on ITV4: "As soon as it started raining, you started sliding down the road. It's a bit disappointing but tomorrow's another day I suppose.

"It's going to be hard reaching the podium now."

Porte is 40 seconds behind third-placed Nairo Quintana after suffering a crash, although I previously reported that the Aussie had a mechanical problem. My apologies.

Bauke Mollema finished more than four minutes behind the leaders, he will slip right down the overall standings.

Just seeing the GC standings now and Romain Bardet moves into second, Nairo Quintana is now third and Adam Yates is now off the podium and in fourth.

    Agony for some riders today.

  17. Romain Bardet wins stage 19published at 16:26 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

Chris Froome makes his way over the line behind the likes of Nairo Quintana and Richie Porte but given that he's not on his own bike, he's done amazingly well.

    The losses will be minimal.

    500m to go

Under the flamme rouge and Fabio Aru pushes further ahead. Nairo Quintana is eking out a gap on Chris Froome. The Colombian could end on the podium today.

But Froome is not giving this up. Even on Geraint Thomas' bike on a hell of a gradient.
