  1. Points for Pinotpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Thibaut Pinot hoovering up more points, first over the category three Col de Berentin. Going green? Two more points for him, one for Thomas De Gendt.

Two climbs down already, five to go, including the three hors categorie bad boys.

Hmm, it is actually 191 left - Robert Gesink, second on Saturday, has also abandoned. He was involved in the crash that saw Manuele Mori pull out.

  3. Bringing up the rear...published at 11:19 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

We'd not lost anyone since a certain pair departed for wildly differing reasons at the end of one very briefly but hugely significant coming together back in Vettel.

French stage winner Armand Demaure had a terrible day on Saturday and had to be paced to the finish to avoid being timed out, thanking his "guardian angels" Mickael Delage and Ignatas Konovalovas.

The 198 that started out had been at 193 for several stages.

Well that has changed already - Manuele Mori has been forced to abandon after his crash.

  4. Men down at the backpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Some slippery roads out there - and UAE Emirates Manuele Mori was one of several riders to go down towards the back of the main group. It does not look good at all for him. He looks to be in a lot of pain.

There is a group of 37 away at the front, about a minute ahead of the main group that includes the key GC contenders. And we are on the second climb of the day already - the category three Col de Bérentin.

  5. First points to Pinotpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

And Thibaut Pinot is duly first over the Cote des Neyrolles, the KOM points as follows...

    Thibaut Pinot, 5 pts

    Tim Wellens, 3 pts

    Bauke Mollema, 2 pts

    Warren Barguil, 1 pt

Yesterday's stage winner Lilian Calmejane rolled out of Nantua with the polka dot jersey on his back this morning.

  6. Postpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Lotto Soudal's Tim Wellens is at the front at the moment. Hold on, he has just been joined by FDJ's Thibaut Pinot.

There are already little groups all over the place.

Yup, the flag drops and the attacks begin immediately.

Cloudy at the moment. Drinking bottles being thrown all over the place already.

Arnaud Demare is out the back already.

  9. Attacks from the off?published at 10:58 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

We are racing - and we are pretty much straight into the category two Cote des Neyrolles - a perky 3.2km at 7.2% to get us going.

You know those stages where the peloton trots along for a (relatively) steady and fairly even 150km before a long and brutal road up to a mountain top finish?

Well, there's none of that today. Not on your nelly.

Nope, today is up from the off, with the Cote des Neyrolles swiftly followed by the category three Col de Berentin.

It's not even a mountain-top finish - they're in short supply this year with just three of them - but look at those monsters lurking on the road to Chambery....

What damage can be done today?

    Not in this race.

The riders get a day off tomorrow, the first rest day of the 2017 Tour. After today’s travails they’re going to need it.

Feast on this lot...181.5km, seven climbs, three of them hors categorie.

No wonder that previewing the race in Cycling News, Phil Anderson wrote: "The main contenders must put their race faces on as this stage could dictate the outcome of Le Tour."

Or as Tony Gallopin puts it....
