The fallout from Fabio Aru's move.....well, I don't think we've heard the last of it.

Meanwhile, at the front of the race, Frenchman Warren Barguil is leading with an advantage of almost a minute over Jan Bakelants and Bauke Mollema.

Some riders are really hurting - Alberto Contador among them.

Rendel Harris: You sure about the motorcycles being diesel? Virtually no company makes diesel motorbikes and they look pretty standard petrol.

Hmm, maybe more investigation is required.

Fabio Aru does not want to be staying at the same hotel as Team Sky tonight because you'd be able to cut the atmosphere with a knife.

What Aru did there was a big no no in cycling.

  5. Back togetherpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Fabio Aru now looks frustrated with nobody following him.

And all too soon everybody is back together.

"That was an amateur move by a true professional," says Rob Hayles.

  6. Attacks on Froomepublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Hmm, seems that the moment Froome had his problem Aru went off the front - and Nairo Quintana and Richie Porte went with him.

I've rarely seen Froome as animated as when he was waving his arms around demanding the team car.

Was Aru out of order there?

  7. Postpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Chris Froome is looking fairly steady with his team-mates around him.

Oh, hold on, Fabio Aru has kicked and Froome has a mechanical problem - and the team car cannot get to him for some time.

Up at the front Tony Gallopin has blown and said goodbye.

I've just seen some shots of the descent down from Mont du Chat and there are some wet patches. That can make for a very dangerous descent.

Tony Gallopin is galloping off the front, leaving Jan Bakelants trailing in his wake.

After so many tough metres already, has anyone got enough left to do anything major?

Riders spread up and down the (very steep) road.

We've got some info direct from Rob Hayles in answer to Christian Cummins Q (14:54 BST) - he says: "yes, they are diesel but it is not a problem for them".

So, Tony Gallopin and Jan Bakelants remain out front, with a further seven 30 seconds or so behind them.

The peloton, led by Chris Froome's team, are less than 3 mins behind.

When? When will we see attacks?

Jan Bakelant, BTW, was first over the Cote de Jongieux, he gets one KOM point for that.

One Sky man has blown up - fair to say that Michal Kwiatkowski's work is over for the day.

The word treacle comes to mind.

We are on the slopes of the Mont du Chat.

Some riders appear to be sliding down the slopes.

    Tough, tough work.

  15. Where's the big dog?published at 15:00 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

Radio 5 live producer Gemma Sterba reports that the Tour caravan is starting to come through the finish at Chambery.

No sign, though, of the 30 foot dog Rob Hayles referred to in commentary. No hold on - here he is.

It has been a long Tour for some already!

Chris Froome currently fifth in the yellow jersey group - with four of his team-mates in front of him.

It's been a far from perfect day for Froome, who has lost Geraint Thomas. But with one big climb left he is looking very well placed.

    Rob Hayles

The middle section is the hardest - 15% in the middle for 1km. It is a climb where, if you are struggling and you do have a bad moment, you could lose a bit of time.

We have a rest day tomorrow so riders can afford to go a little bit deeper than they might want to.

The next two stages after this are both for the sprinters, before in 12 and 13 we hit the big climbs again.

If you are looking out for the yellow jersey you can afford to go deep today.

Tony Gallopin (I so want to put a g at the end of his name) and Jan Bakelants have gone off the front of the lead group and now have a one minute advantage.

What are their chances of staying out? Thought so.

    Time for Mont du Chat.

It's now or never for some, surely.

There is a bit of chat that the publicity caravan is stuck on the way up Mont du Chat.

That could make life very interesting.
