Dan Martin does indeed go to the front of the yellow jersey group, taking the initiative to limit the gap to the front group.
Front four lead by 2'00''
Stalemate in the yellow jersey group as it all comes back together and each rider just looks at the other.
"It's your job to chase, mate."
Dan Martin is the biggest loser from this group as it stands because Mikel Landa looks set to take his fifth place on GC. Simon Yates in sixth will also be motivated to work, too.
All the looking around just means the front four now lead by two minutes again.
With the gap holding steady, it's very like the stage winner will be one of Alberto Contador, Mikel Landa, Nairo Quitana and Warren Barguil.
Does Barguil have anything left to take the win for France on Bastille Day?
Contador, Landa, Quintana and Barguil lead by 1'49''
The stop-start of the yellow jersey group is really helping the front four of Contador, Landa, Quintana and Barguil.
Their advantage is growing back out towards the two-minute mark.
Chris Froome is pushing the limit on this descent, the Team Sky rider flirting with the outside edge of a corner.
Dan Martin pops off the front and Chris Froome goes from a long way back, putting in a huge effort to bridge and overtake the Irish rider.
Fabio Aru has to counter and does. Superb work from the yellow jersey. Romain Bardet is now behind with Rigoberto Uran - they've got to go soon.
Romain Bardet goes on the descent!
He dropped back and snuck up on the left, taking the rest by surprise but they finally latched on and shut it down.
Froome counters but they mark him out, too.
All this up and down has allowed Dan Martin and Simon Yates to get back on.
Froome has another dig towards the top of the Mur de Peguere - his move is marked and the favourites all reach the summit together.
Warren Barguil does indeed bridge and sprints over the top of the Mur de Peguere to take the maximum 10 points in the king of the mountains classification.
So the leading group is now four riders - Barguil, Quintana, Contador and Landa and they lead the yellow jersey by one minute 36 seconds.
He looked to be struggling at one point but Chris Froome may have just been bluffing - the reigning champion stays in the saddle but pedals like mad to bridge up to team-mate Michal Kwiatkowski.
That effort has left Dan Martin behind, the Quick-Step rider dropping back. Britain's Simon Yates in the white jersey is being distanced, too.
Fabio Aru, Romain Bardet, Rigoberto Uran and Louis Meintjes are still there and latch onto Froome's wheel.
The leaders have 1km to go to the summit of the Mur de Peguere.
Quintana and Barguil are closing the gap - expect the Frenchman try and sprint to win more king of the mountains points.
Contador and Landa might be relieved to get some more help for the descent and run in to come.
Kiwi George Bennett - 10th on GC - is struggling and loses contact with the back of the yellow jersey group.
Britain's Simon Yates is still in there and Ireland's Dan Martin is looking good.
Jeez. Chris Froome has just got out of the saddle, an indication of how tough this climb is.

It's been said up to the first week or ten days, that Team Sky haven't had to do anything to defend the yellow jersey, they've let the sprinters' teams and BMC do most of the work for them.
As it stands, Fabio Aru hasn't had to do anything either because everybody else has been doing the chasing for him. He can just sit back and let LottoNL-Jumbo and Team UAE Emirates do most of the work up to this point.
Contador, Landa lead by 2'33''
Contador and Landa have just under 2km left to go in this brutal climb of the Mur de Peguere.
Quintana and Barguil behind can just about see the leaders, but are still over 30 seconds down.
The last kilometre of racing took the leading group over four minutes.
That's how steep it is out there - the riders are almost at a standstill at times.
No spectators to contend with, though, after they were banned from standing on the steepest bits of this narrow climb.
One of Froome's key lieutenants, Mikel Nieve, is being dropped from the yellow jersey group.
Bardet's team-mates Lator and Vuillermoz look in trouble, too.
Contador, Landa lead by 2'30'''
Contador and Landa are onto a incredibly steep section on the Mur de Peguere, just inching up the climb now.
Landa is now 25 seconds from the virtual yellow jersey as his pace understandably slows.
Team Sky's Kwiatkowski is being dropped by Quintana and Bargiul in the second group on the road.
Landa needs around 15 more seconds to become the virtual leader of the Tour de France.
What will Aru do behind? The yellow jersey has no team-mates but, with Landa a threat to the rest of the top 10 on GC too, they are happy to ride with Aru. So far.
Contador and Landa are putting even more time into Quintana, Barguil and Kwiatkowski behind.
Quintana will be frustrated but Barguil will be happy to pick up more points in the mountains classification, should they stay clear to the top of the Mur de Peguere.
Lotto Soudal's Tony Gallopin - who went off alone some time ago but was not followed by the TV motorbikes - is finally gobbled up by the yellow jersey group.
