  1. Bahrain-Merida finishpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Bahrain-Merida come through with just four riders but lose only one minute five seconds to BMC.

That's a bit of a result for Vincenzo Nibali, who effectively loses his advantage over Chris Froome, but no more. It could've been worse having lost four riders well before the end.

  2. Gaviria droppedpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Not long after laying down a fast time at the first time check, Quick-Step have blown apart.

Fernando Gaviria has been dropped and another three riders falls off the front four, before finally catching back on as the road drags uphill.

  3. Postpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Vincenzo Nibali's Bahrain-Merida team are down to four riders with still 4km to ride.

They'll need to keep them all together over the line. The Italian will be losing a chunk of time here.

  4. Postpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Well now. Quick-Step have zipped through the first time check just three seconds down on Mitchelton-Scott's fastest mark there.

Could we have a late challenge to BMC's lead?

  5. Postpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Mark Cavendish's Dimension Data team cross the line one minutes 52 seconds down on BMC.

'The Manx Missile' very much not interested in this one, with a flat stage tomorrow.

  6. Bora set offpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

World champion Peter Sagan, resplendent in his all-yellow skinsuit as leader of the race, guides his Bora team off the ramp as the final team to set off.

Sagan himself is fully expecting to lose the yellow jersey today but can his team conjure up a decent ride to keep him in touching distance of it for another stage to come?

Cofidis really don't like team time trials.

The French squad has just posted comfortably the worst time of the day at 42 minutes nine seconds.

  8. Sunweb go fourthpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Sunweb don't trouble the lead but a big dig in the final section sees them cruise through just over 11 seconds down on BMC. They end up fourth behind Team Sky and Mitchelton-Scott.

So Tom Dumoulin will lose just about 11 seconds to Richie Porte, seven to Chris Froome and two to Adam Yates, keeping a healthy advantage over all three.

An excellent ride by the German squad.

Tom Dumoulin's Sunweb team are into the final kilometre.

It's looking like a strong time...

  10. Quick-Step Floors set offpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Right, the last one of the favourites for the stage are on their way.

Quick-Step Floors have a team full of strong riders, who powered Fernando Gaviria to victory on stage one.

The Colombian lost the yellow jersey to Peter Sagan yesterday but is just six seconds behind. Can Quick-Step restore him to yellow here?

  11. Postpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Bahrain-Merida are 20 seconds down at the first time check.

That could see Vincenzo Nibali lose around 50 seconds on the stage - which is about the advantage he currently holds over Chris Froome.

Hmm, a tough ride for LottoNL-Jumbo as they come in at 40 minutes two seconds, losing one minutes 15 seconds to BMC.

That puts their GC contender Primoz Roglic back around Richie Porte and Chris Froome in the standings.

  13. Postpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Sunweb come through 13 seconds down on BMC.

A decent ride so far to keep Tom Dumoulin firmly up there on GC. Can they put in a big finish to make a good ride so far even better?

  14. Postpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Team Sunweb are approaching the second time check.

Can Tom Dumoulin keep in contention?

  15. Postpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Not to be outdone by the French pro continental teams, Lotto Soudal set the worst time of the day in 40 minutes 38 seconds.

They'll go again for sprinter Andre Greipel tomorrow.

  16. Top five so farpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

    1. BMC 38mins 46secs
    2. Team Sky +4secs
    3. Mitchelton-Scott +9secs
    4. Education First +35secs
    5. Movistar +53secs
  17. Astana set offpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Astana are one of two teams, alongside Trek-Segafredo, to start this stage a rider down.

Luis Leon Sanchez had to abandon yesterday after a heavy crash.

The Spaniard would've been a key team-mate on this stage for GC contender Jakob Fuglsang. What can the Kazakh team do here?

  18. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

And as I type that, Direct Energie cruise over the line five seconds slower to set a new worst time of 40 minutes 38 seconds.

The small French teams are chasing stage wins from breakaways and have no interest in these stages.

  19. Postpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 9 July 2018

Fortuneo-Samsic has set the new slowest time for the day at 40 minutes 33 seconds.

British Mitchelton-Scott leader Adam Yates, speaking to ITV4: "That was a really good time, we've got a super strong team here with big guys for these stages.

"Me and Mikel Nieve sat on for the first part when we went really fast and then put in some turns on the way in.

"For light guys like me it's hard to put much out there in these stages but we rode well."
