You can read the report on today's incredible stage here.

Tomorrow, we leave the Pyrenees as the race moves east in the direction of Cahors, potentially presenting a chance for any sprinters who may still have their legs left to shine.

    I'll catch you then!

  3. 'My team were incredible - I could not do it without them'published at 17:01 British Summer Time 21 July 2022

Jonas Vingegaard said: "It's incredible. This morning I said to my girlfriend and my daughter I wanted to win for them and I did . I'm really happy and proud I won for them. This one is for my two girls at home.

"I was just happy that it finally ended. It was incredibly hard. Of course I am incredibly happy that I win the stage.

"There are two more days to come until we are in Paris and we must stay focused."

On the handshake with Tadej Pogacar: "I think he missed a corner and then he went down into some gravel and tried to steer it out and the bike disappeared under him. Then I waited for him.

"I luckily today have to thank all my team-mates. Incredible. You see Wout van Aert dropping Tadej Pogacar in the end. Everyone was incredible today. Thanks so much to my team-mates I could never have done this without them."

On being set to win the yellow jersey: "I don't want to talk about it yet. There is tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and then Paris so lets talk about it in two days."

This was THE moment, wasn't it?

A mid-race handshake between Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar after the yellow jersey waited up for the defending champion, who had fallen as he tried to find a way to beat him.

    A rivalry for the ages.

There are 35 minutes left for the remaining riders to make the cut off. There could very well be a few last-gasp pushes for the line as we witnessed with Fabio Jakobsen yesterday.

A big finish from Geraint Thomas to roll in fourth, almost three minutes after Jonas Vingegaard, to cross the line fourth and just ahead of Frenchman David Gaudu.

A beaten Tadej Pogacar comes in one minute and four seconds behind Jonas Vingegaard.

Wout van Aert, with the green jersey already confirmed for Jumbo Visma, takes third spot on the day.

    Breaking

Jonas Vingegaard places his hand on his heart and blows a kiss to the crowd as he crosses the finish line at Hautacam.

Stage 18 is his, and so is, effectively, the 2022 Tour de France. A stunning ride.

  11. Postpublished at 1km to go

Tadej Pogacar is digging deep but he's now almost one minute behind Jonas Vingegaard.

This final kilometre of the Hautacam is all about the Jumbo Visma rider!

    What a race.

  12. Postpublished at 2km to go

Jonas Vingegaard is into the final two kilometres. The burning pain of the Hautacam aside, how must this feel for the 25-year-old Dane as the crowds cheer him up the closing stages of the final major climb of the 2022 Tour de France.

  13. Postpublished at 2.2km to go

There's a technical issue for Geraint Thomas, who has to temporarily stop by the side of the road. He'll be joined by Dani Martinez at David Gaudu at two minutes and 26 seconds behind Jonas Vingegaard.

  14. Postpublished at 2.7km to go

Jonas Vingegaard continues to ride away to his first Tour de France triumph.

He has less than three kilometres to the finish line. The gap to Tadej Pogacar is out to 30 seconds - almost a three minute lead in the general classification.

  15. Postpublished at 3.4km

And now Jonas Vingegaard is set free.

Wout van Aert has done his job.

The yellow jersey is 20 seconds clear of Tadej Pogacar, who rolls past Van Aert without exchanging a glance.

  16. Pogacar droppedpublished at 4.2km to go

It looks like this is the Tour de France being decided right here!

Wout van Aert and Jonas Vingegaard ride clear of Tadej Pogacar, who has no response.

Jumbo Visma are riding clear and it looks like it's all over on the Hautacam!

  17. Postpublished at 4.8km to go

Sepp Kuss pulls up alongside Wout van Aert, confirms the Jumbo Visma handover, and comes to a standstill at the side of the road.

    A tremendous effort.

So we're left with the green jersey Van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard in the yellow jersey, and the white jersey of Tadej Pogacar.

With the Polka Dot jersey now up for grabs for either Vingegaard or Pogacar too.

    What a sight.

  18. Postpublished at 5km to go

Is Jonas Vingegaard winding up for a big attack here to put the race to bed once and for all?

Sepp Kuss will soon bring Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar to Wout van Aert and Dani Martinez at the front of the race. They can see them now!

  19. Postpublished at 6km to go

Sepp Kuss is closing down the gap to Wout van Aert and Dani Martinez.

The leading pair have 30 seconds over Kuss, Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard and it looks like Van Aert is slowing down to focus his efforts on assisting his team leader.

  20. Postpublished at 7km to go

Tadej Pogacar is quickly running out of time now.

He has two minutes and 18 seconds to claw back, with realistically only Saturday's time trial left to reduce Jonas Vingegaard's advantage after today.

The big move has to come soon, but so far Vingegaard has been equal to everything.

Sepp Kuss injects some pace and zips past Thibaut Pinot, as Geraint Thomas slips off the back.
