And here's what Geraint Thomas had to say, after making sure of a third-place finish at the 2022 Tour de France.

First, on the stage: "If you know you're close it's easier to get a bit more out. I couldn't really see the time checks, it was just a case of getting my head down and getting on with it."

On his overall performance: "I've always been pretty consistent but to turn it around form last year, I didn't really know where I would be.

"It's really satisfying to be on the podium."

  3. 'A dream scenario'published at 17:10 British Summer Time 23 July 2022

An emotional Wout van Aert has been speaking following his stage victory:

"I'm emotional, winning this Tour de France as a team is really special," he said.

"Today was like a dream scenario. Jonas was such a strong guy but especially also such a good guy. I want to thank all my team-mates and the whole team for this special three weeks.

"I gave it all today and actually I want to win races so I hoped to take the stage. I also hoped Jonas would take yellow. He hoped for the same. It's a great day"

    Yes, it's really happening, Jonas!

The Tour will conclude with its traditional processional final stage tomorrow.

Expect to see this man and his team-mates sipping some champagne during a leisurely ride towards Paris, before eight frenetic laps on the Champs-Elysees circuit as a chaotic sprint finish decides the winner of the iconic stage.
