Wout van Aert has, quite rightly, been handed the combativity award of the 2022 Tour de France.

You'd imagine he'll also go for the victory tomorrow too.

But his team-mate Jonas Vingegaard is proving his biggest threat to victory on stage 20.

He's around six seconds up on Van Aert as we approach the second intermediate check point.

  4. 'You never know'published at 16:16 British Summer Time 23 July 2022

You know Tadej Pogacar will give this everything, but even he didn't see another dramatic GC twist today.

"It’s been a tiring Tour, and it is a tough individual time trial," Pogacar said yesterday.

"I don’t know what I will be capable of doing, but one thing I know is I’ll give it all.

"I don’t see any big surprise happening, but you never know."

  5. Vingegaard quickest at first check pointpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 23 July 2022

But Jonas Vingegaard doesn't appear in the mood to let Tadej Pogacar get a single second back in the General Classification!

The yellow jersey is seven seconds faster than Pogacar after 10.4km.

Geraint Thomas passes the first check point in Aynac one second slower than Wout van Aert.

Then Tadej Pogacar goes through one second quicker than the current leader.

The race for the stage is certainly on...

  7. Pogacar's remarkable 2020 turnaroundpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 23 July 2022

It was one of the most remarkable conclusions to a Tour de France in history.

In 2020, Tadej Pogacar denied Primoz Roglic as he overhauled a 57-second deficit in an individual time trial on the penultimate stage to move 59 seconds clear of his rival before the ride into Paris.

He has over three minutes to claw back today.

Surely this is out of reach...

    Huge ride from Bauke Mollema!

Fred Wright, with less than 30 riders left to cross the line, is pushed out of the podium places.

Mollema goes second, 40 seconds after world champion Filippo Ganna.

But here comes Wout van Aert...

    Here comes the yellow jersey.

Jonas Vingegaard is a problem-free 40.7km individual time trial away from Sunday's processional final stage into Paris.

    It's so very nearly his.

Geraint Thomas, with an eight-minute cushion in third place overall, heads out onto the road.

Tadej Pogacar is not long behind him. Only Jonas Vingegaard to go.

    The race is on! (maybe)

  12. Postpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 23 July 2022

Wout van Aert had a 25-second gap to Filippo Ganna at the second check point.

That lead stands at 23 seconds after check point number three. With 8km to go, can he hold on for top spot? You certainly wouldn't bet against him.

Bauke Mollema is on course to knock Britain's Fred Wright off the podium at the third check point, and he could even go second.

Nairo Quintana, looking to protect his fifth place overall, sets off. Just the top four to go.

  14. Postpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 23 July 2022

There's a gap of 35 seconds separating Nairo Quintana, in fifth, sixth-placed Louis Meintjes, and Aleksandr Vlasov, in seventh.

There could be plenty of movement in the GC top 10 yet.

We're into the top 10 in the General Classification.

The business end of the individual time trial, as far as the overall competition is concerned.

Adam Yates is away. He's eight seconds behind Alexey Lutsenko in the standings. Can he move himself up a place?

But that top five could soon be shaken up!

Wout van Aert is 25 seconds faster than Filippo Ganna through the second check point.

This is a sensational ride so far. Is there anything he can't do?

Bauke Mollema was also just four seconds off Ganna's time at the second check point.

I tell you what, Bauke Mollema is absolutely flying.

Only Wout van Aert has gone through the first check point quicker than the Dutchman, and he's just four seconds off Filippo Ganna's pace at the second check point at 22.1km.

It's looking as though Stefan Kung's promising start has come undone, however.

The European champion is 48 seconds off the pace by the third check point. That's five seconds slower than Fred Wright.

  20. Van Aert fastest through first check pointpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 23 July 2022

Tom Pidcock, who claimed that stunning maiden Tour de France stage win on the iconic Alpe d'Huez on stage 12, gets going.

Out on the road, Wout van Aert, as you'd suspect, is absolutely going for this.

The Belgian, in his green jersey, posts the quickest time of the day through the first checkpoint - 14 seconds up on Filippo Ganna.
