  2. Mitchell's Hitler comments 'beyond disgusting'published at 18:14 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

While we are excited by the fights tonight, the event has been overshadowed by UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell's comments about Adolf Hitler.

UFC president Dana White has condemned comments as "beyond disgusting", as Mitchell said the German dictator was a "good guy" and that "the Holocaust ain't real".

The 30-year-old American, ranked 13th in the featherweight division, made a range of antisemitic, homophobic and transphobic comments during the first episode of his podcast.

White said: "We reached out to Bryce immediately when we read what he said, and let him know exactly how we felt about it.

"But what he said was beyond disgusting and he needs a real education on the facts surrounding Hitler and World War Two."

Despite White's condemnation, Mitchell, who last fought in December, has as yet faced no further action for his comments.

White added: "Hitler is one of the most disgusting and evil human beings to ever walk the earth, and anyone that even tries to take an opposing position is a moron.

"That's the problem with the internet and social media. You provide a platform to a lot of dumb and ignorant people."

As leader of the Nazi party, Hitler led Germany into World War Two and ordered the Holocaust genocide, in which six million Jews were murdered.

Heavyweight rivals Sergei Pavlovich and Jairzinho Rozenstruik are up next and then it's Michael 'Venom' Page against Sharabutdin Magomedov in the co-main.

Israel Adesanya and Nassourdine Imavov will be on their way to the octagon after that.

On the topic of the PFL, the promotion announced last month that prize money has been reduced from $1m to $500,000 (£409,000) as part of sweeping changes to its regular-season format.

Here are some of the changes made by the PFL for 2025:

    • Group stage scrapped, with tournament switching to single elimination format
    • Two new weight classes - middleweight and bantamweight - taking the total to eight
    • Elbows made legal

Some big-name fighters, who were with Bellator when they merged with the PFL, have also been released from their contracts.

Former two-weight Bellator champion Patricio 'Pitbull' Freire confirmed he had been granted an "unconditional release" from the PFL after former middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi was let go.

Russian Vadim Nemkov and Ireland's James Gallagher have also since moved into free agency, so there is some serious talent on the market at the moment.

Mousasi has since signed up with the Global Fight League (GFL) - a new organisation based upon a team-format, but Gallagher, Pitbull and Nemkov all look like potential options to be snapped up by the UFC.

  5. 'We all thought I won that one'published at 18:06 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February

We're only a month into 2025 but we've already seen some high-level MMA take place both in the UFC and in Bellator, which has since been dissolved as an organisation with all Bellator fighters now falling under the PFL banner.

Irishman Paul Hughes met Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov last weekend with the Russian champion earning a unanimous decision victory.

The result were controversial after such a close fight and Hughes described the scorecards as "pretty ridiculous".

"As always I'm going to have to watch it back to get a good assessment and a clear-minded assessment, but as we know, we all thought I won that one," Hughes said in a video posted on his Instagram account.

"I think the judges' scorecards were pretty ridiculous, but as I say I'll watch it back with a clear mind.

"I'm just judging from the energy of the arena and everyone surrounding the cage. I thought it was mine."

There's plenty of data to collate on Michael 'Venom' Page as he prepares to step into the cage for the 27th time in his mixed martial arts career.

But the majority his previous contests have come at welterweight.

Tonight he competes at middleweight for the first time in almost 12 years and second time overall.

Back then, Page beat Ramdan Mohamed by first-round submission in just his fifth professional bout in Mumbai, India.

"I was still new to the sport. I didn't know what was good and bad. You can tell what's organised or not, but you didn't know if that was normal or not," Page said.

"When we were warming up for the fight, me and my opponent were basically warming up in the same room, which is weird."

    Adesanya v Imavov

Israel Adesanya's love for mixed martial arts was sparked after watching movie 'Ong Bak', with the film leaving such an imprint on him that, aged 18, he quit his degree in computer science and focused on a career in kickboxing.

He moved to Auckland as a 21-year-old to study with trainer Eugene Bareman at City Kickboxing gym - not that Bareman knew anything about this - and stepped straight into an amateur bout against Neroni Savaiinaea, despite the majority of his training coming from watching YouTube videos.

Adesanya was overconfident and unsurprisingly was exposed in the bout.

"He got absolutely pasted, beaten, in every round, he showed some talent, but it was such a one-sided fight," remembered Bareman.

Bareman thought Adesanya was "a little bit cocky and not that good" but did eventually welcome him back to the gym where he was eventually won over by his ability as a kickboxer.

"He fought a guy that was much more experienced than him and he took the guy apart and while he was doing that he was entertaining the crowd. That's when I thought man this kid is really talented," Bareman said.

Is there anything better than a UFC card at a palatable time for a UK-based audience?

Tonight's card takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and falls perfectly for our time zone.

We might even be wrapped up in time for Casualty on BBC One at 21:20 and the main event will definitely be done when that iconic Match of the Day theme tune hits at 22:30... no spoilers please!

It might only be a Fight Night, rather than a numbered event, but we've got some big names and exciting match-ups on the agenda.

London's Michael 'Venom' Page has never been one to back down from a challenge and he faces a big one in the shape of Sharabutdin Magomedov.

Then it's on to the main event with Israel Adesanya looking to get back on track against rising star Nassourdine Imavov.
