    And again!

You are kidding. The 35th 180 maximum of the match. New record. More importantly...

    100, 58. Not great.

An Anderson maximum. Could it be?

Stage invader! A man has run from the crowd and taken the trophy! Absolutely incredible.

Van Gerwen had already missed his finish. Anderson clears up. Now the Dutchman for the title...

    Van Gerwen 6-2 Anderson 9th set: 2-1

Gary Anderson is at the point of no return. Just hold the throw, then see what happens. A 180 will do nicely. That's his 65th of the tournament. No player has thrown more in a single Worlds. He is on 40 while Van Gerwen sits way back. Three in hand. One, two, three missed.

MVG 115 for the world title...

Van Gerwen with the arrows, keeping Anderson at bay despite a Scottish maximum. MVG at 148, two trebles leaves D4. Anderson has one at tops, but pulls it low. Van Gerwen is one away...

In sporting parlance, Gary Anderson's head has gone. I'm not sure he quite believes he can turn this one around. He takes out tops, but is only two legs from defeat.

Phillip Mulvaney: I feel sorry for Anderson, Van Gerwen is just totally on fire unstoppable heavy hitting darts.

Dave Wood: Good job it's past the watershed, this is obscene darts from MvG.

Charlie Richardson: At this rate, there'll be time to catch Silent Witness before bed.

    Van Gerwen 6-2 Anderson 9th set: 1-0

The Dutchman starts with a maximum, but Anderson is right on his tail. At the moment, MVG's average of 108 and a bit is the second-highest in world history. He's nowhere 170, though, so Anderson to break. Tops? Ah, no. Still, Van Gerwen on 145 and doesn't get a shot at double. Anderson misses three at D10, MVG mops up D3. This one is as good as done.

    Van Gerwen 6-2 Anderson

The crowd continue to sing for Anderson. He's won only two of the last 17 legs. If it was a fight, they'd have waved it off. Van Gerwen is throwing for the title...

  12. Van Gerwen wins the eighth setpublished at 21:36 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Van Gerwen 6-2 Anderson 8th set: 3-1

The only thing missing from this Van Gerwen display is a nine-darter. Once more, there's five T20s, with the sixth missed. No matter. Sitting on 100 with Anderson way back. D10 for the set. Was it ever it doubt?

Tell the Fat Lady to warm up. Give the engraver a nudge. Polish the crown and make out the big cheque to Mr M Van Gerwen. This one is nearly done.

    Van Gerwen 5-2 Anderson 8th set: 2-1

The crowd sing for Will Grigg. Some bananas, Santas, and some very natty pink blazers. Anderson on 104, pressured as MVG waits on 75. Two 12s? No. MVG shows the way. That's yet another break. The Dutchman to throw for 6-2...

Wow, what a difference a double two makes. 180, 140 from Anderson. Van Gerwen, though, is down to 76 first. Double eight. One dart needed. No more silliness on doubles from MVG.

Richard: MvG is never off. He never has a bad leg. He's indefatigable. The pressure is just too much for Gary.

Ryvn Bevke: Wish this was going to go to a deciding leg and it looked like it was but MvG looks in great form and not stopping.

    Van Gerwen 5-2 Anderson 8th set: 0-1

Some fans sing that they don't want to go home. They might be doing just that quite soon if Van Gerwen carries on like this. MVG, remember, is only six legs from the title. Set-play, though, is not that simple.

The Dutchman, though, can finish first. 72? Hello, a rare miss of tops. And three more! The crowd roars, but what is Anderson doing? He misses three of his own! MVG needs the madhouse of double one, but it's Anderson cleaning up on D2. That was pub darts.

    Van Gerwen 5-2 Anderson

Is this one all done? It's a huge, huge ask for Gary Anderson to come back against the rampaging Michael van Gerwen. His first task is to hold throw in the eighth, then take it from there.

  20. Van Gerwen wins the seventh setpublished at 21:25 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Van Gerwen 5-2 Anderson 7th set: 3-0

What can Anderson do? He's being hit by a Van Gerwen barrage. The Dutchman is throwing punches like Anthony Joshua. Once more, he's first to the business end. 125 for the set. He couldn't?

25...T20... tops? The music tells you it's nailed.

    It's turning into a procession.
