    Van Gerwen 0-0 Anderson 1st set: 2-2

Another maximum? You betcha. Anderson, the greatest bespectacled sportsman since Daniel Vettori leaves 81 after nine. Another 11-darter on the cards. A miss at double four, but Van Gerwen is miles behind. Set decider coming up.

    Van Gerwen 0-0 Anderson 1st set: 2-1

If they carry on like this, they will have to change the board. The little red T20 bed is already getting battered like a punchbag. Now it's MVG's turn to fill it up. He's down to 135. Bull, T15, tops? No. Anderson can't take out 164. Three at double 10 for MVG. Closed out with two fives.

    Van Gerwen 0-0 Anderson 1st set: 1-1

Anderson with the darts, filling up up the T20, two maximums in as many legs. He leaves 41. One, then tops. Nailed at the first attempt. 11-dart leg. Incredible standard to start.

    Van Gerwen 0-0 Anderson 1st set: 1-0

Van Gerwen in his trademark green, boos when he drifts wide to miss out on the first 180. Anderson doesn't miss. Huge roar, crowd sing the champ's name. Oh, hello! 121 for Van Gerwen, finished with the bull! Seatbelts.

For the seemingly unstoppable Van Gerwen, a second world title to add to the one in won in 2014 would come after a 2016 when he won 25 (that's twenty-five) tournaments. Fail tonight and they will seem about as valuable as the Intertoto Cup.

For Anderson, darting history beckons. Win tonight and he becomes only the third man to win three consecutive world titles, breathing the same rarefied air as Phil Taylor and Eric Bristow.
