Michael Smith then misses darts at a double, before Van Veen returns and does the same.

Smith isn't going to give him another opportunity though. There's our first break.

    Smith v Van Veen

Our next match sees 2023 PDC World champion Michael Smith come up against 21-year-old Gian van Veen.

The Dutchman is a talented youngster, losing to Luke Littler in the final of the World Youth Championship.

He lost in the opening round of the World Darts Championship in December and is playing in his first World Series event tonight.

    How will he get on?

    Price 6-3 Van den Bergh

Both players averaged over 100 in that Price-Van den Bergh match.

The Belgian threw more 180s, but it was the checkout percentage that won Price the game.

Luke Littler is expecting a high standard in Den Bosch and could come up against two players he knocked out on the way to the World Championship final.

The 17-year-old beat both Gian van Veen, who faces Michael Smith in our next game, and Dutch legend Raymond van Barneveld at Alexandra Palace and is expecting to be pushed hard this weekend.

“The standard is going to be good once again,” he said.

“All eight of the representatives are good. Maybe Raymond and Gian want revenge, but every first round game is going to be tough for us, so it’s going to be a good weekend.

“It would be a massive bonus if I win it but if I do lose it’s back home and focus on Cardiff in the Premier League.”

  9. Price finishes the jobpublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Price 6-3 Van den Bergh

He was made to work a little harder for it than it looked like he might but Gerwyn Price gets the job done.

The Welshman hits double 18 to end with a 14-dart leg.

He averages 103.43 for the match with Dimitri van den Bergh not far behind on 102.43.

Good contest but it is Price who progresses to face Kevin Doets in the quarter-final tomorrow.

  10. Game on...?published at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Price 5-3 Van den Bergh

Maybe being 5-1 down freed up Dimitri van den Bergh because he's really turned it on since.

He has one dart at double top to extend this match and he nails it.

    On we go...

  11. Fourth break on the spinpublished at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Price 5-2 Van den Bergh

  12. Price one leg awaypublished at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Price 5-1 Van den Bergh

This has been really impressive from Gerwyn Price.

He immediately restores his two-break lead and now has the darts, needing just one more leg for victory.

The defending champion is on the brink of an early exit.

  13. One back for Van den Berghpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Price 4-1 Van den Bergh

A slightly sloppy leg from Gerwyn Price and Dimitri van den Bergh is able to break back.

He's still a break down but he's back in with a shout.

  14. Price cruisingpublished at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Price 4-0 Van den Bergh

It is all going the way of the Welshman and this one could be over quickly.

    Price 3-0 Van den Bergh

  16. Price breaks earlypublished at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Price 2-0 Van den Bergh

Dimitri van den Bergh had multiple chances to level it up but misses five darts at a double.

  17. Super start for Pricepublished at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 26 January

    Price 1-0 Van den Bergh

    Strong start from Gerwyn Price.

An 11-darter to start and a very comfortable hold.

    Price v Van den Bergh

    Wright 2-6 Doets

That final leg summed it up for Peter Wright. Twice he had the chance to capitalise on some nerves from his opponent, twice he was unable to convert.

Those jitters when the finish line was in sight aside, that was a very strong showing from Kevin Doets.

He hit six 180s to Wright's nil and averaged 98.31. Another PDC star falls...
