The third quarter-final features world number four Nathan Aspinall and world champion Luke Humphries.

Aspinall finds himself at the bottom of the table and on zero points after the first two nights while Cool Hand Luke is two points better off having won one match.

It's not the start the world number one will have expected on his debut in the Premier League but there's still time to climb the standings.

Both players averaged less than 90 with Michael van Gerwen edging it 89.63 to Peter Wright's 86.69.

Snakebite was ahead on 180s, two to one, and had 11 100-plus visits to MVG's 10 but it was all about the finishing.

While Mighty Mike was six of nine on doubles, Wright hit just two of 19 - a stat not helped by missing nine darts at double in one remarkable leg.

Michael van Gerwen clinches the win in style with a 136 checkout.

The Dutchman set it up with his first 180 of the match and finishes it off with a double eight.

A strange match. Peter Wright had more than enough chances to have been right in it but he missed and MVG goes through to the semis.

Peter Wright nearly did it again, albeit with less of a cushion this time.

However, a couple of sloppy darts from Michael van Gerwen give him another visit.

It takes until the third dart but, eventually, he hits double five.

On we go.

I have no idea how Peter Wright has contrived not to win this leg.

He had this leg won comfortably. He was on a double with Michael van Gerwen still in the 300s.

However, he misses countless doubles and MVG gradually catches up before hitting double 12 to move to within a leg of a semi-final place.

After a miss from Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright gives himself a dart at double 16 to break back.

However, he misses on the inside and he won't get another chance.

Tops hit at the second attempt by Van Gerwen and he's three legs clear.

The first break goes the way of the Dutchman.

Peter Wright misses tops for a 118 checkout and Michael van Gerwen nips in.

He hits double top and is halfway to victory.

All the legs are panning out quite similar at the moment. They are close but they've never been able to put enough pressure on for the break.

The fans are singing Peter Wright's name and he responds.

Michael van Gerwen fails to find a treble, giving Snakebite a chance.

However, Wright misses two darts at double 16 and MVG comes back to take out 60. He holds. Just.
