The medals are flowing and the records are falling for Great Britain in Rio today - this time it's a world best that's broken.

Jody Cundy leads a men's mixed team sprint C1-5 sprint team of Jon Allan-Butterworth and Louis Rolfe home in a world-record 49.06 seconds to qualify the GB trio for tonight's final.

    Para-triathlon

It's not the dream para-triathlon PT4 gold medal for former swimmer Lauren Steadman, but the Great Britain competitor can be very pleased with a silver medal.

Steadman had led, but was caught by American Grace Norman on the final stage as the event made its debut at Fort Copacabana.

Team-mate Faye McClelland narrowly missed out on a podium spot, finishing fourth.

There's drama in the pool as Great Britain's Jessica-Jane Applegate breaks a Paralympic record in the women's S14 200m freestyle heats, only to see it then beaten by rival and team-mate Bethany Firth the following race.

The two will face each other in tonight's final, with Firth clocking nearly two seconds quicker than her team-mate.

The GB mixed coxed four had been the dominant crew over the four-year cycle coming into this regatta and they proved their worth at the Lagoa, beating the USA by a comfortable two and a half seconds.

Once they crossed the line, James Fox let out a loud shriek of relief and joy, Pam Relph waved to the numerous GB fans while Dan Brown and Grace Clough embraced. And there was another group hug for the quartet, plus cox Oliver James once they came back onto dry land.

It is a second title for Relph, the only survivor from the crew which triumphed at 2012, but a first for the other four and they will celebrate in style on what has been a magnificent morning for the team here.

    Rowing

It's a third rowing gold medal for Great Britain today as the mixed coxed four soar home in first place at the Lagoa stadium.

The USA were second but some way off, with Canada picking up the bronze medal.

And that gold means GB have won medals in all four of the rowing events they were competing in out in Rio today - fantastic.

That great partnership that Lauren Rowles's mum Natalie told me about earlier (see 1348 entry) has delivered in style after a battle with China.

Laurence Whiteley spent two and a half years waiting for a suitable partner to row with in this mixed double sculls event - GB Rowing frequently joked that Laurence was looking for the perfect woman!

But he has found her in Lauren Rowles and just over a year after coming together as a pairing, they are Paralympic champions.

Four years ago he was watching the Olympics from his couch.

Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Dave Phillips, 50, from Cwmbran, south Wales, had been signed off work sick.

He was given early retirement from Tata Steel later that year, and was left depressed and feeling cut off from the world.

So his wife Angie suggested he return to archery in 2013 and now he is in Rio to compete for Paralympics GB. He began his bid for a gold medal this afternoon.

Tom Aggar is unable to add to team-mate Rachel Morris' gold moments ago, but it is a another medal for the GB rower as he takes bronze in the men's single sculls.

That's a great Paralympic return for Aggar having missed out on the podium at London 2012.

Ukraine's Roman Polianskyi is the gold-medal winner by some way, followed by Erik Horrie of Australia.

Rachel Morris made the decision to switch from handcycling after the London Paralympics, where she won bronze, after her gold in Beijing.

After her win, through floods of tears she said she was crying and laughing at the same time.

"I had such an appalling start out there so to come back from that is fantastic," she told BBC Radio 5 Live. "It was a hard transition from cycling but I've had massive help to enable me to do this."

    Clare Cunningham

In the same PT4 category as Lauren Steadman is veteran athlete Clare Cunningham who will be competing in her first Paralympics for 20 years!

The 39-year-old won 50m freestyle gold at the 1992 Barcelona Games where Dame Sarah Storey was her team-mate, before retiring after the Atlanta Paralympics four years later.

"The Paralympics are unrecognisable to what I remember and it's amazing to be a part of it again because when I stepped away I genuinely didn't think I would ever have the appetite to train full-time again and return," she tells me.

"I was competing with able-bodied triathletes for fun in my spare time until the sport was put into the Paralympics a few years ago and I though, well, 'why not'.

"It feels amazing, but so surreal to be here after so long since my last Games."
