They are getting closer. Lionel Messi wraps his foot around a free-kick, ripping it up over the wall and back down, but leaves the crossbar shaking rather than the net bulging.

BBC Sport's Paul Fletcher at Deepdale: "The home crowd really got behind their team at Deepdale and savoured a cracking cup tie that had everything they wanted apart from a positive result.

"At times it looked as though they were the team at the right end of the Championship and not in League One, but that will not worry Forest boss Billy Davies, who has once again tasted victory against his former team."

All over, Nottingham Forest are into the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they will meet Sheffield United. Preston put in a heroic effort and should have scored plenty, let alone one. As it is, they were undone by a classy finish and a sucker-punch. Gutting.

There's no justice. Preston have thrown everything at Nottingham Forest tonight, but Darius Henderson has put the Championship side into the fifth round. On the counter, he pounces on a knock-down, finishing from the edge of the box. Not even close to deserved.

Graham Jack Thirkill: , externalPreston North End should be renamed "Pressed'em To No End" after this match. Definition of Valiant.

It's just not Preston's night. Joe Garner wriggles trough the Forest box, somehow getting past two challenges. When he finally gets a shot away, Jamaal Lascelles is throwing himself into a block, which deflects on to the post. Unbelievable. Four minutes of added time.

Well into the final five minutes at Deepdale. Can Preston force an equaliser? They deserve one.

You don't win four successive Ballon D'Ors with that kind of finishing. Lionel Messi forces a good save out of Real Sociedad goalkeeper Enaut Zubikarai as he swivels and volleys from 10 yards.

The Argentine looks odds on to bury the rebound, but swipes mostly thin air as the ball drops to him and the goal gapes. A collector's item there.

Barca have racked up 84% of possession in the opening 25 minutes, by the way.

Dorus de Vries takes a lob from Paul Gallagher, then goes down from the pain to a right leg injury. If Preston can somehow force extra-time, Forest have used all their subs.

"Preston have nothing to lose by going for it, they may as well lose 2-0 than 1-0."

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at London Road: "A rather sombre finish to the game here as a fan falls ill and is treated at the side of the pitch before being taken away in an ambulance. The whole second half has lacked the eccentricity of the first - but 10-man Swindon have done remarkably well to salvage a draw after being 2-0 down."

Yet another chance comes and goes for the men in white. Dorus de Vries is helpless after a full-length save from John Welsh, Kevin Davies is there, but his follow-up is cleared off the line by Jamaal Lascelles. Deepdale is rocking, home fans willing the equaliser to come. The drum bangs, hands clap, roars with every attack. They deserve an equaliser.

Barcelona have been popping the ball around neatly, but have not yet prised an opener out of a hard-working Real Sociedad side. A brief moment of concern for the Catalans is alleviated as Cesc Fabregas and Daniel Alves recover from knocks and return to the fray.

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at London Road: A fan was taken ill on the side of the pitch and the players went to the dressing rooms to keep warm. It looked like a member of medical staff was performing chest compressions. Terrible stuff.

The supporter was taken away on a stretcher and into ambulance.

The players are back out now and we're entering injury time.

And still it's Preston. Scott Wiseman, the Gibraltar international, tries his luck from outside the box, flashing a low drive past the post. Is it not going to be their night?

How have Preston not scored? They might as well pitch a tent in the Forest box. Corner, another scramble, bodies everywhere, but it still won't go in the net. Whereas the Madrid derby was a lot of drama queens hitting the deck, this is blood and thunder cup football. I know which I prefer.

Barcelona should have scored on two separate occasions in about 30 seconds. Cesc Fabregas scuffs his shot from close range and keeper Enaut Zubikarai touches it around the post with his feet. The resulting corner falls to Alexis Sanchez at the far post but he fires wide from close range.

It's all Preston, with seemingly the whole of Lancashire screaming for a penalty as Greg Halford throws himself at Kevin Davies's shot. Halford is sliding feet first, but the ball definitely strikes an arm. It wasn't deliberate, but you feel it probably should have been given. It's a Preston onslaught, but somehow Forest are surviving.

Preston coming again - Neil Kilkenny running on to a dropping ball at the edge of the Forest box. He has time, but his shot is straight at a Forest defender. Could have done better?

Remember how we talked of empty seats in Madrid? There's even more in Barcelona, huge swathes of red plastic without bottoms to warm it. Pedro gets to the right corner of the Sociedad box, firing across goal, but wide.
