Game and tie over? After Atletico had that effort cleared off the line, Real went straight up the other end to get a third, with yet more luck and another wicked deflection. It's Angel Di Maria firing a loose ball from the edge of the area, the deflection off Miranda again leaving Thibaut Courtois helpless.

Scrambles in both games. Ball pings around in the Forest box as Preston are unable to get a meaningful effort away. At the same time 1300 miles away, Atletico's Diego Godin is having a header cleared off the line by Luka Modric.

Scott Cairns: , externalWould love to see what the two Madrids would do against Forest and Preston. The theatrics are shocking from both players

After a Lazarus-style recovery, Di Maria is fit enough to take a corner from the Real left. Outswinging, poked goalwards by Pepe, but wide. Pepe can't believe it, throwing his hands to his Sideshow Bob hair.

What is going on here? There's Real players rolling around all over on the place. Angel Di Maria screaming like a man who has just been shot after a challenge from Juanfran. Di Maria is helped to his feet by a lady physio, who then covers him with a red blanket to make it look like he's just finished a marathon. We start with a drop-ball - always good to see - but Atletico clear.

The Real Madrid defence have poking and prodding Diego Costa all match and finally they have the reaction they have been looking for.

Costa flops to the floor theatrically under a nothing challenge from Angel Di Maria and throws a strop as the Argentine lands on top of him. Whether it was for the dive or the reaction doesn't matter. Costa has a yellow card and will miss the second leg.

Going behind hasn't knocked North End out of their stride, it's still all Preston at Deepdale. In fact, I think Mackie's goal might be Forest's only shot on target. Kevin Davies is putting himself about, while Keith Keane has fired wide from distance.

While Real were going two up, Preston almost equalised. A free-kick from the PNE left was met by Kevin Davies, who forced Dorus de Vries into action from 10 yards out.

Lovely, lovely stuff from Real brings them a second goal and puts them in control of the first leg and the tie. Angel Di Maria on the left, the corner of the box. He slides the ball into the path of Jese's run, with the youngster nutmegging Thibaut Courtois with the outside of his boot. Megs. Class.

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at London Road: "If you're a fan of own goals - and who isn't? - you'll love this game. Shaun Brisley has well and truly sliced Ben Gladwin's cross into his own net.

"It actually went in a direction completely opposite to the way he was facing. Handy for Swindon too, as they've got 10 men after Jay McEveley was sent off for introducing his boot to Britt Assombalonga's face.

Trickery from Ronaldo. One stepover, then another, but his shot is straight at Thibaut Courtois. It's been a reasonably subdued start to the second half in the Spain capital.

BBC Sport's Paul Fletcher at Deepdale: "Preston had made a confident start to the game, passing the ball crisply and looking a threat in attack.

"However, at no point had they showed the level of quality displayed by Jamie Mackie with his superb left-foot finish. The Forest fans have found their voice, letting it be known that they are Billy's Boys."

That Mackie goal gets better every time you see it on replay. It was met with near silence inside a Deepdale that has seen the home side dominate the early stages. Now that goal has come against the run of play, can Preston respond?

Former Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"It was a great side-foot finish with his left foot by Jamie Mackie. Declan Rudd has fallen over as he comes to punch the cross and he is only just getting to his feet as the ball drops to Mackie. But is was a beautifully measured shot from the former QPR man."
