Oof! Fortune favours Hugo Loris. The Frenchman dashes off his line in an attempt to gather Luisao's through ball, but he misses it completely. Somehow, though, the retreating goalkeeper nicks the ball from Rodrigo's path. The Spaniard would have been through on goal had the goalkeeper not intervened.

Simon Poyner in Plymouth, via text: Tottenham have only let their opponents have 5 shots on target in the last game and a half. Unfortunately they have conceded 5 goals. That's what happens when things aren't going for you.

Mark in Notts, via text: Sherwood surely has no toys in the pram left to throw? Willing- absolutely, confidence or quality tonight? Precious little. Where does he go now with the players?

Steve in Basingstoke, via text: So more shocking tactics and team selection from Sherwood, is this the players fault too Tim?? We need a proper manager. This is dire.

Harry Kane is caught in possession by Ruben Amorim just yards from the edge of his own box and Benfica punish the young striker in the worst way possible. Amorim earns a corner for his team and, from that, Benfica score their second, with the unmarked Luisao heading home from close range.

Jason Roberts at White Hart Lane

"What a fantastic pass from Eriksen but Adebayor will be disappointed, he had an excellent chance there but he will be disappointed not to have done better. That was so much more direct from Spurs, Eriksen got the ball and ran straight at Benfica, which we didn't see in the first half."

Tottenham, of course, face Arsenal on Sunday so it could be a tough few days for Tim Sherwood and his men if they lose this match. A stop-start, erm, start to this second half with neither side keeping possession with much aplomb.

David Gale:, external Spurs under Sherwood have never been more entertaining. 2nd half they will go all out attack and get smashed to pieces or win.

Leeban:, external Tottenham English players are so poor they need to rebuild Tottenham like Brendan Rodgers is doing with Liverpool.
