  1. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2014

BBC Sport's Shamoon Hafez reports: "Rodrigo's lovely finish the difference at half-time. Spurs have had the majority of the possession, but it has been an accomplished European away performance from Benfica, soaking up the pressure while looking to hit the home side on the counter attack with the pace of Lazar Markovic and Miralem Sulejmani. Tim Sherwood has got a reaction from his players with hard work, but Jorge Jesus's men are using their heads, while Tottenham are using their legs.

Nick in Woking, via text: This is reminiscent of the worst days under AVB, no heart and sloppy.

Rob in Newbury, via text: So if Spurs win, Sherwood is brilliant. If they lose, he has already given his excuse. He takes no real responsibility. Why was AVB sacked, and why did Sherwood try to blame him for the bad performances?

Dave in Oxford, via text: I remember when Everton played Benfica several years ago and my mate walked in, read Eve vs Ben on the screen and asked if it was Everest vs Ben Nevis.

Opta Joe:, external 2 - Spurs have kept just two clean sheets in their last 10 European games at White Hart Lane (not including qualifiers). Shaky.

The match, you sense, winding down to half-time. Paulinho attempts to release Aaron Lennon with a cute through ball but the Brazilian ends up on his backside and a red-shirted player steals the ball. When your luck is out, your luck is out.

  5. Europa League updatepublished at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2014

There are now goals in all the matches around Europe, with Rodrigo's the latest of six in the five late kick-offs. Lyon are now level against Viktoria Plzen at 1-1, Gueida Fofana cancelling out Tomas Horava's opening goal.

AZ Alkmaar lead 1-0 at home to Anzhi Makhachkala after Aron Johannsson scored from the penalty spot. Juventus still lead Fiorentina 1-0 and Baptistao has given Real Betis a 1-0 lead away in Sevilla.

"The way it's going Tim Sherwood may need to rely on those he doesn't feel he can rely on."

An iffy few minutes with the match mainly being played in the centre of the pitch and the ball spending most of its time in orbit. Tottenham opting to hit long balls towards Emmanuel Adebayor, but it's a tactic Benfica are comfortably dealing with at the moment.

One shot on target. One goal. Ruthless stuff from the visitors and Bolton fans might remember Rodrigo because the 23-year-old enjoyed a season-long loan at the Reebok Stadium during the 2010-11 season. I say enjoyed, I have no idea whether he enjoyed his time there, I'm just assuming he did.

Jason Roberts at White Hart Lane

"Tim Sherwood will be so frustrated about that. Benfica haven't done anything to open Spurs up but that space shouldn't be there. It was so easy for Benfica there, a straight pass like that should never get through.

"That will be a real frustration, especially because it's an away goal."

A classy finish by Rodrigo. The Spaniard is set free down the right by Ruben Amorim, takes one touch with his left boot before deftly curling the ball beyond Hugo Lloris at the far post.

David Marley:, external Jesus was the same at SJP when Benfica came to Newcastle. We watched him rather than the match!

James Tonkinson:, external Spurs applying more pressure and stringing some passes together. Just need to create more space in final third.

John Brown:, external Spurs need to build the team around Eriksen. When he plays in his preferred position we are a much better side. Class player.

A sniff for Christian Eriksen as Jan Oblak is far from convincing at dealing with a hopeful Younes Kaboul header. The Benfica goalkeeper backpedals swiftly, though, smothering the ball before the Dane can nip to it.

Tottenham monopolising territory and possession, notching four corners so far. Tim Sherwood leaves his seat to bark orders at his players while chairman Daniel Levy simply looks on from the directors' box.

Kyle Wilson:, external If players aren't performing then yes a manager is right to criticise publically, more need to do it!

Ian Marks:, external Aaron Lennon is the most underrated English player out there in football

Jamie Moor:, external Kane is a good selection. An up and coming player who always gives 100% Give him a chance.

Tottenham earn a corner, thanks to a Harry Kane knock-down which forces former Brazil international Luisao to clear the danger. Despite the presence of the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Sandro, Christian Eriksen's corner simply finds Luisao once more. A second Tottenham corner ensues... And there's nothing to report from that.

Chances are now coming Tottenham's way. Aaron Lennon releases Sandro, but the midfielder fires high and wide. Another tricky run down the right by Lennon and this time the winger finds Emmanuel Adebayor, but Benfica's defence holds firm.

  17. Europa League updatepublished at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2014

There's already been two goals in the other matches as both Juventus and Viktoria Plzen took just three minutes to open the scoring. In Italy, the home side lead Fiorentina 1-0 after Arturo Vidal fired home from five-yards out, while Tomas Horava has given the Czech champions a 1-0 lead over Lyon, after he was left unmarked to head home a cross from the right.
