[watching the second goal back on video] "That's me there. Oh no, that's Stevie Hodge! I was well out of position! I'd gone!

"All I could see was poor old Peter Reid pumping his legs to try and get back but he just got further and further away,

"When he gets the ball in the centre-circle there's no danger but Maradona knew exactly what he was doing.

"His head is up the whole way, and to go around Peter Shilton like that is just brilliant. It's one of the best goals in world football.

"You don't mind losing to a goal like that. It was magnificent. But unfortunately it is always overshadowed by the Hand of God."

Michael Carey, external: Absolutely nothing wrong with that first goal, Shilton should be embarrassed to get outjumped by Maradona

Chrissy Waddle is warming up for England now, as Peter Beardsley skims in a low shot from the edge of the box. England in desperate need of width.

"When we look at our own players back home, some of them being sold expensively to Italy, I think in all honesty we can say there is no light that shines as brightly as Maradona.

"He can do it on his own, he can lay it on for other people; can take part in inter-passing movements, has fantastic pace, also tremendous strength; he's won a couple of headers in midfield and on that fine one, unfair or not, he still read the backpass quicker than Shilton did and the ball was running away from him."

Bobby Robson could do with this guy on the bench - Lt. Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell has been blazing up the box office over the last few weeks and England are seriously lacking his sort of speed out there.

Can England get John Barnes or Chris Waddle on?

Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full...

    Kenny Sansom
    Former England defender

"I didn't see the handball for the first goal. I saw Peter Shilton run to the referee and thought 'what's that all about?'

"Some of the lads were asking for offside, some were saying it was a handball but I didn't really know what had happened until later."

Wow. What a goal. Glenn Hoddle gave the ball away again, cheaply, but he can't have expected a goal as a result.

    Simply brilliant...

BBC commentator Barry Davies at the Azteca

"You have to say that's magnificent! There is no doubt about that goal. Pure football genius.

"If the first was illegal, the second was one of the best we've seen in this championship. The crowd in the Azteca stand to Maradona."

    OH MY WORD!

That is absolutely tremendous! England may be going out of the World Cup but we are all privileged to witness one of the greatest goals of all time.

Diego Maradona picks the ball up on the halfway line, spins away from both Peter Reid and Peter Beardsley and then roars away. Terry Butcher is beaten, he skips inside Terry Fenwick and then rounds Peter Shilton before stroking home.

    Genius. 5ft 6ins of genius...

Extraordinary goal. England look a little rattled now, they need to settle down and see out the next 10 minutes.

Goal! Argentina lead and you have to say they deserve it!

That man Diego Maradona is of course involved, weaving in from the left and playing a one-two, before Steve Hodge helps the ball over the top. Maradona then beats Peter Shilton to the ball and flicks it home.
