Chris:, external Nice to see Brehme walk off when injured to keep the game going instead of sprawling out on the pitch.
The German fans are in full voice as they have a spell of concerted pressure. Olaf Thon is having a cracking second half, driving his side on from deep, but his shot from the edge of the box is wild.
Steve Wilson
BBC Match of the Day commentator
"'Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it'. Put another way: England v Germany 1990 semi here now."
Another cracking block, from Paul Gascoigne this time, stops Olaf Thon in his tracks. Both sides looking dangerous on the counter as we approach the hour mark.
That is a chance! England have a corner but Stuart Pearce makes a hash of clearing the ball and West Germany are on the break. Olaf Thon picks the ball up and drives at the backline, Paul Parker stands him up and Peter Shilton is able to save his shot easily.
The game has just come off the gas a bit after that rapid tempo to the first half. The tension may just be kicking in.
Trevor Brooking
Former England midfielder
"A great little interchange between Chris Waddle and Paul Parker, but Parker, playing out of position as a full back, perhaps just lacks a little composure in those attacking areas."
Mark:, external I like Bryan Robson's idea of the first team to score in extra time wins. Something for Fifa to think about perhaps.
Matt:, external Robson advocating the golden goal there, wonder if if will ever succeed?
Daniel:, external Hope it doesn't go to penalties, I've got double science first thing at school tomorrow.
Go on Paul Parker! Aaahhh...
Lovely combination down the right as Chris Waddle flicks it over the top, Parker is in for a moment but his touch gets away from him and the danger is gone.
Bobby Charlton
England's record goalscorer
"I'm really pleased, England have played well, have knocked the ball about and looked confident. We wanted to show the rest of the world we can play football and that was first class.
"Olaf Thon and Klaus Augenthaler looked like they could cause problems through the middle of the pitch but defensively England have been solid. But there is a still a lot of work to do."
Ah lovely stuff from Karl-Heinz Riedle and Lothar Matthaus as they dance their way through a packed backline, but David Platt just about gets a foot on the ball and steers it back to Peter Shilton.
Here we go then - game on!
Very Angry Statto, external: Congratulations to Mr J Green of Leicester. You win a trip to Rome for two to see the 1990 World Cup final.
Penalty shootouts are the discussion in the studio at half-time. It won't come to that - will it? I don't think I could take it.
BBC pundit Jimmy Hill on World Cup Grandstand
"People have been writing in saying that instead of having a penalty shootout, the team who commit the fewest number of fouls in the match should go through.
"I'm not sure about that. Penalties are not fair, but they do provide great drama and excitement."
Des Lynam
BBC presenter
"Well I hope we aren't shedding tears later on tonight..."
Richard:, external Can't imagine the feeling of actually seeing England in a World Cup semi. It's nerve-wracking enough watching one you know the result of.
Congratulations Mr. J Green!
Stand by for some brilliance from Ray Wilkins...
