South American football expert Tim Vickery: "Traditionally Chile's World Cup campaigns come to an end when they play Brazil. In Brazil the idea that Chile could beat them is unthinkable.

"Chile are always great to watch but they always give you chances from set pieces and on the counter attack, as we saw in the game with Netherlands today. Where do Brazil consider themselves especially strong? Set pieces, and counter attacks.

"It will be a fantastic game to get the knockout stage underway, because World Cups are not remembered for the group stages - unless you are England and have already been knocked out - but for the knockout games.

"Chile will try to impose their game on Brazil, it promises to be a wonderful match but Brazil certainly think they will win it."

HNIC:, external As it stands Vincent Enyeama is the only goalkeeper who hasn't conceded a goal in this tournament...Awesome!

VB:, external Anyone else feel lost that there isn't another game today? Can we make the World Cup groups a play everyone twice event?

Alan Royston:, external Can't face watching the England game. Let's just turn this page, return home and start again.

"If Neymar was not on the pitch for the rest of the tournament for whatever reason, then Brazil wouldn't win the World Cup. He is that important. Looking at the Brazil 1982 team, this team is not a patch on that."

South American football expert Tim Vickery: "So often in life and in football a success story needs a little bit of failure - that is the case with Neymar.

"I vividly remember the first time I saw him, he came on for Santos for the last seven minutes when his side was 2-1 up in the Maracana. We had heard about him, that he was a tricky dribbler, but the first thing he did was to ping a 45-yard diagonal ball that opened up the opposition defence and led to a goal.

"In the remaining five minutes he had an opposing player sent off and had shot parried out and turned in for 4-1. But then he went to the U17 World Cup and he was an absolute flop. Brazil were eliminated in the group stage and he was twice taken off.

"Neymar now has confidence in his own ability. He has got himself up to a level now where he believes he can turn it on in the big occasions and believes he can make the difference in big matches."

"Mexico are very strong in the tackle and not afraid to leave a challenge in. They are very good from set pieces and two of their goals against Croatia came through the presence of Rafael Marquez - he can power one in no doubt.

"Also the movement of Javier Hernandez is fantastic, and we all know what he can do from inside the six-yard box."

Netherlands v Mexico: Sunday 29 June, Fortaleza, 17:00 BST

Mexico had a turbulent qualification campaign, winning just two of their 10 Concacaf group matches. They also used 47 players and four coaches but have been rejuvenated by the arrival of portly coach Miguel Herrera, who guided them through a two-legged play-off against New Zealand. Now they return to Fortaleza, where they earned a 0-0 draw against Brazil, to face the Dutch.

South American football expert Tim Vickery: "There is not much comparison between the Brazil side of 1982 and today's Brazil. The '82 side always had the majority of possession, their opponents were like a bull thrown into to a bull fight.

"This current side don't beat you on flow but on moments, the vast majority of which come from Neymar.

"What will have pleased Luiz Felipe Scolari most about today's result is the two second half goals that didn't come from Neymar.

"Fred got himself a goal, and for the last one - when Neymar was off the field - we saw more of the collective blend they had in the Confederations Cup."

You think about the great players, they have had a World Cup when they have done it for their country. Neymar has stepped up with big goals and you would like for one of Neymar or Messi to say this is the World Cup they put themselves in the bracket of a Ronaldo, Zidane or Maradona.

Brazil v Chile: Saturday 28 June, Belo Horizonte, 17:00 BST

These two South American sides are familiar foes, and if Chile show the same attacking threat that they provided against Australia and Spain than Brazil's shaky defence could be rocking. But you wouldn't bet against Neymar - who is now the tournament's leading scorer - digging them out of any hole.

Ross, Glasgow: Think how different things would have been if the two wrongly disallowed Mexico goals in the first game against Cameroon had been given. Would have made for a hectic end to the matches tonight.

Abdul Karim:, external The Dutch have been impressive in the group stages, but I think Mexico can beat them in the last 16. Solid team. Should be interesting.

Are we ever going to see an end to this attacking World Cup? It's like all the managers are switching their tactics to 'gung ho', like you used to do when you were chasing a goal on Football Manager. There have been a whopping 108 goals in just 36 matches - which a quick bit of mental arithmetic tells us is almost three per game. Long may that continue.

"Croatia did nothing to challenge Mexico. They have technical players but they just didn't turn up, Luka Modric got nowhere the game. It was a really disappointing performance from Croatia, no real intensity, no real desire."

"Defensively Brazil look suspect and Alex Sanchez in the Chile team can run at Thiago Silva and David Luiz. We saw Vincent Aboubakar create problems for them tonight.

"But if Neymar is on form like he was here then he is a match-winner. It will be a fascinating contest, it could be the game of the tournament so far."

Brazil's players have a quick stroll around the Estadio Nacional pitch to soak up the acclaim of their supporters in the Brazilian capital. Boy wonder Neymar shares a hug with some Cameroonian rapper dressed in baseball cap. What's he doing on the pitch? Oh, turns out it is his Barcelona team-mate Alex Song, who was suspended after being sent off in their last match.

"At times in the first half, Cameroon looked dangerous, especially with balls into the box.

"Neymar was the star of the show but Brazil are unconvincing. Without Neymar they haven't the X factor and is Fred the answer? I'm not convinced."

  20. Group A's final tablepublished at 22:56 British Summer Time 23 June 2014

    Group A

So Group A finishes as it started almost two hours ago. Brazil suit pretty on top of the pile, setting up a last-16 tie against South American rivals Chile. Very tasty. And Mexico clinch second place to tee up a meeting with the Dutch.
