"That yellow card has been coming, too many players have been diving into challenges. When you are taking on a team with the likes of Eden Hazard in it, don't dive in. It's exactly what they want you to do.

"Geoff Cameron, playing in central defensive midfield, will now be scared to make a challenge and won't dive in again."

USA win a corner, they've scored from a few already and they create danger again, Geoff Cameron winning the header and flicking it on but Clint Dempsey can't get on the end of it.

"This US side are, once again, showing they are extremely organised, very well-drilled and technically sound. What they lack is genuine pace and star quality, the ability to make something happen from nothing and what we are already seeing is Belgium's back four holding a pretty high line because they know there isn't a lot of pace on the US side that can hurt them."

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

A stick-on booking. Belgium look to break with pace as Kevin De Bruyne tees up Dries Mertens down the wing and Geoff Cameron cynically takes him out. First man in the book.

"USA have weathered the early scare and they are finding their feet nicely. Divock Origi had a chance in the first minute and it would've been a huge blow for USA to concede so early.

"But they will have to be careful with that high defensive line they are playing as you do not want to give someone with a lot of pace room to run into."

Toby Foot:, external This game definitely needs an early goal to spice it up, not looking forward to another draw and extra time.

John Dykes:, external Belgium have the better players but USA have phenomenal spirit and I think it will carry them through!

Dan Hayes:, external As an occasional sporter of rather large hair, I am stunned Marouane Fellaini hasn't shaved his head because of the heat.

A long throw, a pitch invader and a drop-ball. I'm ticking off all my niche footballing bingo cards in this game.

The invader is swept away and Belgium continue to boss the ball with little or no impact.

"There is a defensive weakness in this Belgium side and strangely enough it is Eden Hazard. He doesn't look over his shoulder enough. Chelsea fans will remember that from the match against Atletico Madrid."

Eden Hazard is the most dangerous Belgian since Jean-Claude Van Damme but the Americans have restricted him to just three touches in the opening 10 minutes.

Problems here now for the Belgians as Divock Origi goes down after a heavy challenge. He's alright though.

"The problem for USA is when they push numbers forward, if it breaks down they could get caught. Belgium will look to play on the break with the pace of Eden Hazard and Divock Origi."

Play to your strengths. Nothing wrong with that, as Belgium launch in a Rory Delap-style long throw and look for the extras off Marouane Fellaini. That's the first long throw I've seen in the World Cup, but it comes to nothing in the end.

The US are settled now, into that two lines of four formation that will be tough to break down. Get it wide, get it to Hazard...

The new Dirk Kuyt - not the most common moniker to hand out. But I like it...

"Geoff Cameron is playing in a central midfield position and Fabian Johnson will be marking Eden Hazard on his own. I'm a big fan of Johnson. He could be the new Dirk Kuyt. He will be asked to fly forward but also get back and cover Hazard when he can."

"Some people are suggesting that Belgium have not been tested at this World Cup. But in the first game they went 1-0 down and won 2-1 against Algeria and in their last game they went down to 10 men and beat South Korea, so I think they've shown good character."

Jurgen Klinsmann looks on from the bench as his side sort themselves out after that nervous start. Michael Bradley gets on the ball in midfield and puts together a flowing move but they can't find lone frontman Clint Dempsey.

DaMarcus Beasley then hurtles forwards down the left wing but he can't complete the cross. With Vincent Kompany and Daniel van Buyten in the middle, Belgium will be comfortable dealing with those all day.

This is already more promising than Argentina v Switzerland. Belgium starting superbly, winning a corner which is just about dealt with.

Can the US ride the storm?

"I was speaking to a group of US fans last night in Salvador who told me thousands of the supporters who came out for the group stages have had to go home.

"They have notoriously little annual leave in the US and many of the fans had to go back or face losing their jobs. The ones who have stayed are carrying a Stars and Stripes flag signed by all those who have gone home. They are here in spirit, it would seem."

What a start for Belgium, what a start for youngster Divock Origi as he instantly gets in behind the States defence. Clean through, one-on-one, foiled by a fine stop from Everton keeper Tim Howard.

    Huge, huge chance.

"A really rousing rendition of the United States anthem from their fans but oddly the players weren't as pumped up as they have been. In the game against Portugal they were bawling it out.

"It looks to me like they have decided to take a more calm approach and not waste too much nervous energy before the game starts."
