Some rest days for us all then - two of them - but we'll be back for the quarter-finals of this cracking World Cup.
See you all on Friday...
Belgium captain Vincent Kompany:
"Two words.. TIM HOWARD #Respect #BelUSA"
USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann:
"Tim Howard played phenomenal. He was outstanding and he kept us in the game. We knew we would have chances if we kept going forward but he was absolutely amazing.
"You can give him the biggest compliments in the world.
"The longer he keeps you in the game you hope that you will get the breaks going forward. You can build on the back of Tim. Games are decided by little things and thanks to Tim we had that possibility throughout 120 minutes."
USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann:
"Obviously it's a bummer for us to end on the losing side in a game that gave everything to the fans and to the crowd. A thriller, we had enough possibilities to equalise in that game.
"Congratulations to Belgium. It was a game which went to the extreme. We are all very proud of our team, they gave everything they had and they made their country proud.
"The sport will only continue to grow. The league is getting stronger and stronger and we are into another four-year cycle of Olympics, Gold Cup, Copa America and World Cup."
Belgium goalkeeper Thiabut Courtois: "I made a great save with the chest and it was important in that moment. Argentina are a really good side, it will be very difficult game. We are not thinking about the semi-finals. We will just play that game and hopefully we can all give 110%."
Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger:, external
"Congratulations to @ussoccer on a great World Cup. I'm proud of you. You brought all of us together. We'll be back. #OneNationOneTeam"
All eight group winners made it through to the last eight then, but nobody had an easy ride. The World Cup keeps on giving...
Tim Howard may well have shoehorned his way into the team of the tournament on the basis of one night's work. A brilliant display.
Good luck sleeping after all that drama.
Former England captain Rio Ferdinand
MOTD analyst
"One thing that has been startling throughout the tournament is the lack of good defending."
Luqman Liaqat:, external After that game, how can any football fan say this World Cup has not been one of best ever.
Stuart J:, external Great game! One of the best matches I've seen. USA have been the best TEAM in the tournament, shame to see them go out.
Ben Stephen:, external This World Cup has been special. Eight teams left, any one of them could win it. Fascinating!
BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Brazil
"I am not sure there are any words to describe the second half of extra time. I will admit it, I had written the USA off. Completely. They looked dead on their feet. They look beaten. Totally.
"How they did what they did in the final 10 minutes is beyond me, but they made this yet another wonderful match in what is a tournament that continues to thrill, delight and surprise.
"Belgium were better, but as the US players leave the field beneath me they do so with huge credit. More please."
All the highlights - well not all 39 Belgium chances - are now in.

Former England captain Alan Shearer

"Wilmots, the Belgium coach, deserves tremendous credit as he moved Kevin De Bruyne to the left in extra-time and moved Eden Hazard into the number 10 role."
Rihanna:, external Great job USA I'm proud of you boys! You put your heart in it!
Tom Hanks:, external Tim Howard remains a god.
We now have the full line-up of quarter finals then.
Brazil v Colombia, Friday 4 July 21:00 BST
France v Germany, Friday July 4 17:00 BST
Netherlands v Costa Rica, Saturday 5 July 21:00 BST
Argentina v Belgium, Saturday 5 July 17:00 BST
Former England captain Rio Ferdinand
MOTD analyst
"It was like watching a Premier League game. It was unbelievable.
"You have to start taking Belgium seriously. The manager is making great substitutions and from the bench they have better players than any other team to change a game."
Conor McNamara
BBC Radio 5 live
"This epic encounter that went 120 minutes in Salvador and thrilled us every second of the way ends with success for Belgium. They go through to face Argentina, and the USA players are flat on their backs. They gave it everything."
Belgium had 39 attempts on goal, 17 of which were on target.
Tim Howard is MVP.
