Time quickly marches on and the last quarter-final of this World Cup is almost upon us.

Who will face Argentina in the last four? Netherlands? Costa Rica?

Find out by joining my colleague Tom Rostance, who will guide you through the rest of today's action. Cheerio.

  2. Manager reactionpublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella "It was our best game of the World Cup.

"It is a great joy for this team, for the people for my family and for everyone. This was the best game for Argentina in terms of balance and all aspects of its game.

"However, the injury to Angel Di Maria is a big blow."

  3. Player reactionpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Argentina goalscorer Gonzalo Higuain: "We were able to reach a semi-final which we haven't achieved for many years. Now we need to play well and try and reach the final.

"We gave our all, it's a World Cup, it doesn't happen every day. There are two matches left to achieve this beautiful dream."

    Argentina

Gonzalo Higuain's goal was a superb display of intuition and skill but he almost scored a stunning second when he smashed an effort against the crossbar.

It may not have resulted in another goal, but it did make for one of the more unusual - and funny - sights of the game as Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella almost fell over.

  6. ARGENTINA INTO THE SEMI-FINALSpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

It may have had more to do with Belgium failing to really play at their peak, but that to me was one of Argentina's best performances of the tournament.

They also did not rely too heavily on Lionel Messi, with Gonzalo Higuain and Angel Di Maria shouldering a lot of the attacking responsibilities.

Don't take my word for it, though, have a watch of the highlights to decide for yourself by clicking on the Highlights tab at the top of this page.

Kevin, Hornchurch: Belgium deserve to go out. Do nothing for most of the game and then panic attack for 10 minutes. Ridiculous tactics. Like England's over-hyped generation.

Venkat Mukundan:, external That takes us a step closer to what we all know the tournament is crying out for, a Brazil v Argentina final.

John Dunthorpe:, external Like France yesterday Belgium will know they did not do their best. Will be hard to live with.

Simon Adams:, external Another golden generation go out looking ordinary.

This, by the way, is the first time in World Cup history that Argentina and Brazil have both reached the semi-finals in the same World Cup.

It has the makings of a mouth-watering final if they can both beat their semi-final opponents next week.

  12. ARGENTINA INTO THE SEMI-FINALSpublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

It has been a while since Argentina fans last saw their team in the semi-finals of a World Cup, 24 years to be exact when they ultimately finished runners-up.

With Brazil now without their talisman Neymar, and no European team having won a World Cup on South American soil, do Argentina fans dare to believe that their side could go all their way on their fiercest rival's own territory?

Saqueeb Rajan:, external Got to hand it to Argentina. They have not impressed at all this World Cup but find ways to win games - a mark of champions.

Ross Gordon:, external In the quarter-final of the World Cup, how can you need a goal for 80 minutes but force the keeper into just one save?

"Everybody talks about this Belgium team but they resorted to smashing it upfield and were terrible. Let's not talk about this team as the next generation and their attacking talent as I thought they were absolutely pathetic.

"One moment of quality from Gonzalo Higuain won the game for Argentina."

The referee blows his whistle and Estadio Nacional explodes into a cacophony of noise. Argentina are through to the World Cup semi-finals and their players race to hug each other. Belgium players, in contrast, stand alone. Disconsolate.

Thibaut Courtois has denied Lionel Messi on a regular basis in La Liga and he pulls off a great save to deny the Barcelona man grabbing a second when he runs through on goal.

    Axel Witsel

Axel Witsel then shoots agonisingly over the bar for Belgium. Surely that was their moment?

A stoppage in play disrupts Belgium's momentum as Enzo Perez is down injured. The fourth official then holds up the board to show five minutes of added time.

Five minutes for Belgium to muster an equaliser from somewhere and force extra time. Can they do it?

Belgium have a corner which Dries Mertens fires into the area. The ball lands in a crowd of players and Nacer Chadli tries to get a shot off, but can't get through the defence.
