If ever there was a game at this World Cup for Belgium's big players to step up, it is surely this one.

There was plenty of purring about the country's golden generation before the tournament but they have yet to really shine in Brazil, with Eden Hazard in particular still to show the sort of form he does for Chelsea.

He is not feeling the pressure, though, saying: "The whole team is tranquil. We do not feel pressure, we play like we do in training, and that is why we are here. Matching the team of 1986 is an objective. It's not impossible and is there to fight for. We have to win the match with Argentina."

"Argentina fans are really enjoying it here in Brasilia. They have huge numbers inside the stadium and are already letting the Belgium players, who are warming up, know all about it. They have now taken to singing 'Brazil how does it feel to be bossed around in your own back yard?' That hasn't gone down brilliantly with the many Brazilians in the stadium.

"As an aside, I have been told that extra military police are on standby in the bowels of this stadium should they be needed after the game. Let's hope they have a quiet evening all around."

Angel Di Maria had a stinker in the World Cup quarter-final, but popped up when it mattered. The Real Madrid star swept in Lionel Messi's pass in the 118th minute, carrying Argentina into the last eight after an unconvincing display against the organised Swiss.

Steven, Manchester: All this talk of Lionel Messi just makes me want Belgium to win more than ever. Never seen such over the top coverage for one player.

Tristan, Stoke-on-Trent: Messi, Messi and more Messi. The stage is set for the little wizard. The golden boot must be his!

Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws has no doubt who will be key to Belgium's hopes of stopping Lionel Messi.

Their front page displays the slightly disturbing imagery of Manchester City's Vincent Kompany, arms locked with Messi with the headline "It takes two to tango".

Kompany has been struggling with a groin injury since the group stage but Belgium coach Marc Wilmots is evidently confident he is fit enough to keep Messi quiet as the big man starts today.

Lots and lots of blue and white in the Brasilia stadium stands but there is a smattering of Belgium fans there and they cheer loudly as Vincent Kompany leads his team-mates on to the pitch to go through their warm-up.

Nice touch from Kompany as well just before they ventured out of the tunnel. He waited for the rest of the players to come down the steps from the dressing room, gathered them together and then surveyed each of their faces, presumably checking to ensure there were no signs of nerves.

Belgium will need a big performance from their leader today.

Belgium make just one change from that dramatic extra-time victory in Salvador. Everton's Kevin Mirallas comes into the side on the strength of an excellent performance as a substitute in that last-16 victory. He replaces Dries Mertens.

Meanwhile, Liverpool target Divock Origi keeps his place as Belgium's lone striker despite the impact made by Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku. Argentina make three changes, with Manchester City's Martin Demichelis replacing Federico Fernandez, Jose Basanta replacing the suspended left-back Marcos Rojo, who serves a one-game ban, and Lucas Biglia coming into the side in place of Fernando Gago.

Si's Insights:, external Once again, Romelu Lukaku is on the bench. Arguably the right decision by Marc Wilmots; in this tournament he's better as an impact player.

Peter Coleman:, external Only those who never saw Diego Maradona in the flesh can doubt his brilliance. Lionel Messi is great, but Maradona was the greatest.

Adam:, external Messi has to win Argentina a third World Cup to get the legendary status Maradona has.

  11. Howaaard...good save!published at 16:07 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Extra time in Belgium's last-16 win against the United States was some of the most entertaining football I have seen in a long time.

It was so good in fact that my normally football-hating wife loved it, particularly the heroics of a player she thought was called Howard Goodsave...

Tim Howard's World Cup finals record of 15 saves in that game did, though, highlight that Belgium certainly carry plenty of threat going forward. In total, they had 39 shots on goal and will surely give a tweaked Argentina backline plenty to think about today.

  12. Team newspublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

A trio of different faces in the Argentina starting line-up, which is led - as expected - by Lionel Messi. Manchester City centre-back Martin Demichelis replaces Federico Fernandez, while fellow defender Jose Basenta and midfielder Lucas Biglia also start. Suspended left-back Marcos Rojo and Fernando Gago make way.

Belgium boss Marc Wilmots makes a single change to the team which began Tuesday's last-16 tie against the USA. And that's good news for Everton forward Kevin Mirallas, who gets the nod for his second start of the tournament. Napoli speedster Dries Mertens drops to the bench, where Chelsea powerhouse Romelu Lukaku remains - despite scoring against the Americans.

The Belgium players are out on the pitch down below me having a look. There are no shortage of former players and celebrities here in Brasilia today. One man who should have caught the eye but didn't was Carlos Valderrama. The very famous barnet was tucked away under a hat as he arrived at Estadio Nacional. Only fair to the man who has to sit behind him, I'm guessing.

There might be a fierce rivalry between Brazil and Argentina, but these Argentine fans arriving at the stadium in Brasilia have a message of support for the injured Brazil striker.

    "Fuerza, Neymar" = "Strength, Neymar".

    A nice touch.

It may seem like Argentina have basically been Lionel Messi and 10 other players at this World Cup so far, but The Flea might be needing those around him to step up today, given who is in the Belgium goal.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid and not once did Messi manage to find a way past him when in Barcelona colours last season.

In fact, Messi has failed to get the better of Courtois in the last seven games he has played against him. A frustrating afternoon ahead for the little man?

17 June: Belgium 2-1 Algeria: Belgium were tagged as one of the dark horses in Brazil building into the tournament but they delivered an unconvincing display in beating Algeria after coming back from a goal down in their opening game.

22 June: Belgium 1-0 Russia: The match against Russia wasn't exactly a classic but Belgium won courtesy of a winner from 19-year-old substitute Divock Origi two minutes from time.

26 June: South Korea 0-1 Belgium: Belgium were a man down for a lot of this match and had to show their resilience to win, with Jan Vertonghen getting the decisive goal.
