Belgium are pushing forward and it is leaving gaps at the back, ones that Lionel Messi tries to exploit as he hits a pass between two defenders for Rodrigo Palacio to chase, but it is too much for the Inter forward and Thibaut Courtois is quick off his line to collect.

David, Ormskirk: You're a goal down and you take off two of your most creative players who can score from nothing in Kevin Mirallas and Eden Hazard. Belgium deserve to lose.

"In his pre-match press conference, Belgium coach Marc Wilmots said he had sat down with Eden Hazard and talked over some key points about his game. He told us that he hoped we would see the results on the field. Well, we haven't, Marc. Eden Hazard has been left in the shadows by Lionel Messi today."

"Belgium have got centre-back Daniel Van Buyten playing up front with Romelu Lukaku and what that tells me is that they are going to smash it upfield and bypass Dries Mertens, Kevin De Bruyne and Nacer Chadli in midfield. They are playing like a team with no ideas.

"They are not giving the ball to the creative players, who haven't done anything anyway."

    Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini is flagged offside but Argentina were in no danger with Pablo Zabaleta getting himself in front of the Manchester United midfielder's shot.

    Time running out for Belgium.

Nathan Bright:, external What was it Jose Mourinho said? Eden Hazard the best player in the world under 24? Not at this World Cup!

Shohidur Rahman:, external Can't believe Nacer Chadli came on instead of Adnan Januzaj. Marc Wilmots doesn't have a clue.

    Robbie Savage

"People say Eden Hazard could be the best player in the world in a couple of years - I can't see that at all.

"Belgium have played like they have got no belief."

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Last throw of the dice for Belgium as Eden Hazard pays the price for another below-par performance. He is replaced by Nacer Chadli. Can the Tottenham man work some magic in these final 15 minutes?

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Belgium are pushing now and Lucas Biglia goes in the book when he halts Jan Vertonghen's run. Free-kick to Belgium in a decent position and Dries Mertens takes it, but pulls his effort wide of Argentina's near post.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Argentina make a change as Ezequiel Lavezzi goes off and Rodrigo Palacio bounds on.

Is the Inter forward's off-centre rat-tail the worst haircut in World Cup history? I think it might just be.

Rob, Sussex: Heard a lot about this being the golden generation for Belgium. Looks about as good as England's golden generation at the moment.

  16. Argentina 1-0 Belgiumpublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

    Robbie Savage
    BBC Radio 5 live

"What Argentina midfielders Javier Mascherano and Lucas Biglia have done is mop up everything in front of their back four.

"But Belgium are using Marouane Fellaini better after pushing him further upfield and they now just need the quality into the box."

  17. Postpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Almost for Belgium as Kevin De Bruyne has the ball wide right and crosses low towards the near post. It is not the best delivery in the world but Argentina's Ezequiel Garay slides in, almost diverting the ball under his own goalkeeper but Sergio Romero is down quickly to spare his team-mate's blushes.

  18. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Jan Vertonghen's deliveries are looking like Belgium's best chance of fashioning an equaliser and it is his boot that creates the first chance of the half for Belgium, Marouane Fellaini heading wide from his cross.

    Robbie Savage
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Belgium have to go for it and it is a very positive change. Romelu Lukaku did exceptionally well when he came on against the USA and made a big difference."

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 5 July 2014

Romelu Lukaku and Dries Mertens come on

It is still not happening for Belgium and that crossbar-rattler from Gonzalo Higuain prompts Marc Wilmots to make a change. On come Romelu Lukaku and Dries Mertens for Divock Origi and Kevin Mirallas respectively. Mirallas is evidently not best pleased as he stamps on a water bottle like a petulant child.
