    After being spared a transfer embargo for suspect youth signings, Barcelona have been getting their summer business done quickly.

    Having already tied up a deal, external for Croatia playmaker Ivan Rakitic and sold Cesc Fabregas, Spanish newspaper Marca reports today that they are close to a deal, external for Argentina and Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain. Formerly of great rivals Real Madrid of course...

    The paper adds that Higuain's international team-mate Sergio Aguero , externalhad been Barca's first choice target, but Manchester City refused to consider a deal.

    Remember Paul the Octopus, who predicted the outcome of eight matches at the 2010 World Cup? Well for this year's tournament in Brazil, Shuail the Camel has been put forward as a successor.

    The camel correctly predicted results in key matches such as England v Italy and Netherlands' shock win against Spain. Al-Arabiya's website features a picture, external of the animal sitting between two flags in the sand and pointing its nose towards the winning country's flag.

    Argentina striker Lionel Messi believes his side need to improve, despite beating Bosnia-Hercegovina 2-1 in their opening World Cup game on Sunday.

    Messi scored his second ever World Cup goal when he jinked past two defenders before providing a neat finish to beat Bosnia keeper Asmir Begovic for Argentina's second goal.

    Argentina's next game is against Iran in Belo Horizonte on Saturday.

    Last night's Argentina v Bosnia-Hercegovina attracted 6,368,448 tweets around the match. Lionel Messi's goal attracted 236,174 tweets per minute and he was also the most mentioned player on Twitter during the game.

    The most RT tweets on Twitter relating to the World Cup came from, er, Niall from One Direction who added a number of tweets, external sharing his views on the action.

    The Argentina side that opened their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over Bosnia-Hercegovina have their roots in the teams that won back-to-back Fifa Under-20 World Cups in 2005 and 2007.

    Lionel Messi finished top-scorer in the 2005 tournament in a team that also included Sergio Aguero, Ezequiel Garay, Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando Gago.

    Aguero returned two years later to defend the trophy and succeeded Messi as the tournament's golden boot winner. Winger Angel di Maria and goalkeeper Sergio Romero were among his team-mates.

    England boss Roy Hodgson says Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has the ability to be considered among the world's best - but he must prove it at the World Cup.

    Uruguay's Suarez, 27, is set to recover from a knee injury in time to face England in Thursday's Group D match.

    "You can be a great player in your league but to be recognised as one of the all-time greats you have got to do it at the World Cup," said Hodgson. "He has got the potential. He is a wonderful footballer."

    The BBC News magazine monitor has done an interesting piece on how analysts are using data to predict the outcome of the World Cup.

    Before the tournament, BBC presenter Gary Lineker tipped Argentina to win the World Cup, adding that Lionel Messi had been "saving himself for this tournament".

    Lineker said: "He's been running about a mile or two less each game that he's played - statistics show that. Even then he was still scoring a goal a game."

    Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher tells the Daily Mail that Wayne Rooney should be restored to a central role against Uruguay. But he says that Uruguay's defensive frailties, rather than Rooney's own form, would be the reason.

    Belgium have gone from a team which embarrassed their country to dark horses to lift the title.

    How have they done that? Well according to Belgium's former technical director Michel Sablon, it was a three-step plan that involved banning players from going backwards in the national youth set-up once they had moved up, ripping up league tables and not focusing on results for youth football and handing out a brochure to schools, clubs and youth coaches that insisted they play a fluid and flexible 4-3-3 formation favoured by the national team.

    Arsenal fans were particularly interested viewers of Costa Rica's win over Uruguay on Saturday.

    Joel Campbell, who scored one and set up another in the underdogs' 3-1 victory, signed for the Gunners in 2011, but has spent the following three years on loan at Lorient, Real Betis and, most recently, Olympiakos.

    However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says the 21-year-old will be given a chance to prove himself at the club this summer.

    Croatia's players are choosing to blank World Cup media. Why? Well it's because photos of them bathing nude in their hotel pool were published, says coach Niko Kovac. Two snappers hid in bushes near the team hotel and took pictures of players that appeared online.

    "How would you feel if someone took naked pictures of you?" Kovac told a news conference in Praia do Forte. "They are adamant that they won't speak to you lot any more. I don't know whether the silence will end tomorrow or last until the end of our World Cup campaign."

    Croatia lost their opening World Cup Group A match 3-1 to hosts Brazil and play Cameroon in their second game on Wednesday in the Amazonian city of Manaus.
