    Belgium's 1-0 win over Russia wasn't very pleasing on the eye, but the hardy souls who made it through that one got their reward in last night's subsequent matches. Algeria kept their last-16 hopes alive with a 4-2 victory over South Korea before Portugal snatched a point against USA to keep Cristiano and Co in the tournament - just about.

    England manager Roy Hodgson and Steven Gerrard spoke to the media yesterday, with captain Gerrard revealing he will take time to consider his international future.

    Gerrard said: "I will consider it long and hard and speak to the people who will guide me. The first person who will know is Roy."

    Hodgson described England's early exit from the World Cup as the lowest point of his career. He said: "I've had other moments but this is England, a job that means so much to me and so many other people, a massive job. So yes, this is the worst."
