The Caipirinha, made with cachaca (sugar-cane brandy), sugar and lime, is Brazil's national cocktail.

There are a number of variations, such as caipiroska, made with vodka instead of cachaca. It's also possible to vary the "roska" part of the drink, based on your fruit of choice. In Natal, where Italy play Uruguay, there's also the local "cajaroska" - a taste only found in the north east.

The area is also famous for its lace and embroidery, including curtains, towels and clothes.

Here's a sorry-looking scene England's players have got to look forward to.

This is the day even England's worst pessimists thought would never arrive - a dead rubber in their final World Cup group game with manager Roy Hodgson trying to give everyone a go to make them feel they have played their part in the tournament.

Hodgson talked about the "realm of despair" that has enveloped the England camp since their loss to Uruguay and a victory for today's opponents Costa Rica against Italy sent them out.

If there is still despair, he must lift it quickly because another defeat here in Belo Horizonte may just test the mood of the public back in England and those supporting out here a bit more.

Douglas Law:, external We have to face facts, England's game is irrelevant. We might as well play it like a friendly and try new players and tactics.

Dave Munro:, external As everyone has said, a win would be nice! Just to prove that we're not as bad as we seem right now.

Mac Jerry:, external I just don't know what I want to see. A win seems to be too hard for them to give. A loss, well we've had two of those already!

  16. Everyone wants to play for England - McClarenpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

Steve McClaren also said he understood Harry Redknapp's claims that players try to avoid international duty, but believed players still wanted to represent their country.

"When you do get hectic schedules, and these players are playing Champions League football, and then you get friendlies and they have niggling injuries, you can very much understand what Harry is saying," said the Derby boss.

"But I've worked with England for many years, and everybody wants to play for England."

Asked who he thought would win the World Cup, McClaren said: "Out of European teams I say Germany has the best chance. And then there's Brazil, because they have to."

  17. McClaren in shock at England demisepublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

Former England manger Steve McClaren has opted for the carnival atmosphere of Wimbledon rather than Rio and has told the BBC he is shocked England have been knocked out of the World Cup so early.

"It's been so quick, just two games and it's finished," said McClaren, who was at the helm when England failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

"I look at England now and it's totally different, and quite rightly, we're trying to adapt with these younger players coming through and that's left us vulnerable at the back."

  19. Who is playing - and who will win?published at 13:26 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

Greece v Ivory Coast, Group C (21:00 BST)

Mark Lawrenson: "Ivory Coast carry a goal threat and, in the last half-hour of their defeat by Colombia, with Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou on with Yaya Toure, they could easily have nicked a draw.

"Greece know a win could put them through but they have not been great and, as soon as they go a goal down, it could be game over."

    Greece v Ivory Coast

Lawro's prediction: Greece 0-2 Ivory Coast

  20. Who is playing - and who will win?published at 13:25 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

    Japan v Colombia, Group C (21:00 BST)

Mark Lawrenson: "I was at Colombia's win over Ivory Coast in Brasilia and they are another of the teams to have impressed me. Most of their fans seem to be in my hotel, and they kept me awake all night celebrating that victory.

"James Rodriguez is a livewire going forward and I like the look of Mario Yepes at the back too.

"Japan need to win to have any chance of progressing but I cannot see that happening. I did not think much of them in their first two group games, especially up front, where they don't look like they have got enough quality."

    Japan v Colombia

    Lawro's prediction: Japan 0-2 Colombia
